Tavaris Jackson: 'It's Probably Time For A Change'

Jun 26, 2014 12:16 AM

The Vikings aren't giving him a chance to be their starting quarterback, so Tavaris Jackson is ready to move on. "It's probably time for a change," Jackson told The Star Tribune. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to play up here the last five years. ... (But) I'm not trying to be a backup. I'm trying to go somewhere where I have a chance, and I don't feel like I'd get that chance here. It's time to move on. No hard feelings or anything. It's a business." The Vikings drafted Jackson in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. "Since Day 1, I don't really think I was really welcome here anyways, because nobody really knew who I was, being from a smaller school," said Jackson. "A lot more things probably play into it, too. It's just the way things are. I can't help that."

Crowder Says He Didn't Sell Jerseys

Jul 12, 2014 8:20 AM

Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder clarified comments he made on his radio show about "hypothetically" selling his jerseys when he played at Florida, claiming he did not sell any of his Gators uniforms while he was a college player. "I was playing off the whole Terrelle Pryor thing where businessmen were buying his stuff," he said Tuesday in an interview with ESPN's SportsCenter. Crowder created a media stir when he discussed the subject during the debut of his new two-hour weekly talk show on WQAM radio in Miami. "I'll say hypothetically I don't have any more of my Florida jerseys," Crowder said Sunday. "There were some Jacksonville businessmen that really hypothetically liked my play." He claims he was just trying to make a point.

Ponder: 'I Want To Definitely Start Week 1'

Aug 11, 2014 4:25 AM

Christian Ponder, Minnesota's first-round draft pick in April, told KFAN-AM that he's gunning to become the team's starting quarterback this season. "Obviously, I think everyone in my position would love to start Week 1," Ponder told the radio station last week. "It's the competitor in me, and something I've always dreamed of was starting in the NFL, and I want to do it ASAP. But obviously there are some reasons behind bringing a guy in, and obviously there's some definite pros to it. If they still bring in a guy, it's going to be someone who knows what he's doing. It will give me a lot to learn from and help me out. "But at the same time, I want to definitely start Week 1. So, we'll see what happens, and whatever happens, I'll be completely fine with it. I think the coaches are going to make the best decision for me personally."

Peterson Apologizes For Camp Absence

May 24, 2014 2:55 PM

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has apologized to his fans for being absent from a youth football camp carrying his name in Oklahoma. Peterson has appeared at the camp near the Oklahoma campus in Norman the past three years, but says he won't be able to make it Thursday or Friday for this year's event. "I want to apologize to all the fans about the confusion regarding the camp in Norman," Peterson said in a statement. "I hosted camps in Palestine and Tyler, Texas, last week that went great. Due to ProCamps misunderstanding of my schedule, I was never able to host this year's Norman camp on their scheduled dates, but look forward to being back in 2012."

Vikings Stadium Bill 'Not Stalled'

May 17, 2014 8:16 AM

Friday's self-imposed deadline for settling on a Vikings stadium bill came and went, but supporters seem confident that an agreement is still very possible. Ted Mondale, chair of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission, said a meeting of stakeholders called Tuesday by Gov. Mark Dayton seemed to shake loose weeks of arduous negotiations. "We had been stalled for about a month, but we're not stalled now," Mondale said. "We're a lot closer this week than last." Lester Bagley, the Vikings' vice president in charge of stadium development, said that "significant progress" was made this week. "I think when legislators and the governor are ready to address the stadium in a special session, that we will have the comprehensive proposal in front of them," he said. Even if agreement is reached on the stadium bill, it won't be enacted until after Dayton and legislators close a budget deal.

Vikings Didn't Offer Rice Contract Before Lockout

Oct 20, 2014 8:17 PM

The Vikings and Sidney Rice spoke before the NFL lockout went into place, but the team didn't offer the wide receiver a contract at the time. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said Saturday that Rice is still expected to explore free agency. The lack of an offer likely had more to do with the pending labor uncertainty than any lack of desire to pay Rice. "The Vikings have been good to him," Rosenhaus said. "There's just so many factors that will take place once the lockout is lifted."

Harvin Believes Migraines May Be Gone

Oct 31, 2014 10:49 AM

Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin says he's migraine-free. He hasn't had a debilitating headache in five or six months. "This is the best I've felt, probably, since I've been in kindergarten," Harvin said. Harvin was reluctant to go into much detail, but is cautiously optimistic he's found long-term relief from a health issue that has dogged him since childhood. "I met a couple of doctors," he said. "There were a couple of things they found in my neck that I won't get into - some things they found and fixed, along with diet and the rest of the things that can cause them. "It's been great, and knock on wood, it'll continue."

Friday Deadline For Vikings Stadium?

Aug 24, 2014 9:22 PM

Vikings owners and Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton left a meeting Tuesday pledging to try to fill a funding hole of up to $131 million in the team's proposed new $1 billion Arden Hills home by Friday. "We're committed to getting this project done if at all possible," said Dayton, later adding, "Where there's a will, there's a way." The governor convened the meeting of Ramsey County officials, team owners Mark and Zygi Wilf, legislative sponsors of a stadium bill and Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission Chair Ted Mondale. After two hours, all emerged from the closed-door meeting preaching optimism, but looking borderline grim. "We have a lot of work ahead of us," Zygi Wilf said.

Peterson Would Welcome Burress To Vikings

Sep 12, 2014 9:23 PM

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson would love to see Plaxico Burress line up with him on the team's offense. "Of course, I would love him to be a part of my team," Peterson said. "He's a guy before he left the game for two years, he was one of the top receivers in the league. ... I'm sure (Burress is) going to come out, he's going to be on fire and he'll be ready to contribute to whichever team picks him up." The Vikings finished 26th last year in passing yards per game. Minnesota's Star-Tribune notes that the Vikings "do not appear to have any interest" in the free agent.

Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin, who missed two games and numerous practices last season as he continued to deal with migraine headaches, says he is feeling good. "I'm just waiting to get back out there on the field, just getting real anxious right now," Harvin told KELO-TV. "We are just playing this waiting game [with the lockout]. As far as my health, I'm fine, 100 percent, in the best shape of my life. I'll be ready to go."
