Alex Smith In Extension Talks With Chiefs

Oct 31, 2014 6:13 AM

Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs are in extension talks.

"My agent handles all of that, and that's why you hire that guy to take care of that, so you can focus on football,” said Smith, who has one year remaining on his contract. “It's really not my place. I have a contract for this year."

Smith has a single year left on his contract that will pay him $7.5 million in 2014. He'd become a free agent in 2015 without a new deal.

Dorsey Values Scouting Beyond Normal Channels

Jul 2, 2014 4:02 AM

John Dorsey, general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs, likes to scout in non-traditional places for players.

The Chiefs have two former Ivy Leaguers, a player who never played beyond junior college before joining the club and one who was strictly a basketball player in college.

“We all have our avenues to find players,’’ Dorsey said. “There are different ways of doing it. It’s my responsibility to the Kansas City Chiefs to do everything within our power to make sure we’ve got everything covered. We’re going to do that because if you’re not out there working, somebody else is and they’ll find those guys. Everybody does such a thorough job now.

“In today’s football, it’s really hard because all 32 teams are doing their due diligence in terms of working to unearth talent. The objective is to get real players. Anybody can go and find obscure players but they have to be able to play at the end of the day.’’
