The Carolina Panthers remain focused on acquiring Deshaun Watson in a trade with the Houston Texans, according to a report.

The Panthers view Watson as the single player that can suddenly make them a Super Bowl contender.

Watson is seeking a trade despite the Texans' refusal to move him to this point.

The Carolina Panthers have restructured the contracts of Christian McCaffrey and Shaq Thompson to clear more than $11 million in salary-cap space.

They saved $5.6 million in space on McCaffrey by converting his 2021 base salary of just over $8 million into signing bonus, according to Adam Schefter.

Just last year McCaffrey signed a four-year, $64 million extension that made him the highest-paid running back in NFL history at $16 million a year.

The Carolina Panthers are expected to use the franchise tag on Taylor Moton.

While both the Panthers and Moton remain interested in getting a deal done, but the tag is likely to be the end result.

Moton was a second round pick at offensive tackle in 2017.

Thomas Davis will sign a one-day contract to retire as a member of the Carolina Panthers.

Davis, 37, announced Wednesday on Instagram he will sign the contract on March 11.

"I will officially be returning to the place my heart has been all along," he wrote on Instagram. "[Panthers] thank you from the bottom of my heart for this opportunity."

Davis played his first 14 seasons with Carolina after being selected with the 14th pick of the 2005 NFL draft out of Georgia. He was released following the 2018 season, then spent 2019 with the Los Angeles Chargers and 2020 with the Washington Football Team.

The San Francisco 49ers have called the Carolina Panthers about a possible trade for Teddy Bridgewater, according to a report.

John Lynch said last week that there was no doubt Jimmy Garoppolo would be San Francisco's quarterback in 2021.

Bridgewater signed a three-year deal with Carolina last offseason.
