Taylor Moton, Panthers Agree To Four-Year, $72M Extension

Jul 15, 2021 4:07 PM

The Carolina Panthers and offensive tackle Taylor Moton agreed to a four-year, $72 million extension that includes $43 million guaranteed at signing.

Moton became the starting right tackle in 2018 and has started every game for Carolina over the past three seasons.

Moton's annual average of $18 million per season ties him with Lane Johnson for second among NFL right tackles.

Moton took some snaps at left tackle during offseason workouts, mostly due to injuries that limited Cameron Erving and Trent Scott. Erving, signed to a two-year, $10 million deal in free agency, is the front-runner for the left tackle job.

The Carolina Panthers placed the franchise tag on right tackle Taylor Moton earlier this offseason as they seek a long-term deal.

The deadline to reach such a deal is July 15.

There's no word on how close the two sides are to an agreement, but The Athletic reports that the Panthers want to sign Moton to a long-term deal.

Moton is set to play for $13.754 million under the terms of the tag.
