Panthers Sign Free Safety Holt
The Panthers have agreed to terms with free-agent free safety Terrence Holt, according to The Times-News.
"He'll have an opportunity to compete for a starting job. I think he's certainly capable," said Holt's agent. "They're not promising anything, but it's an opportunity."
"Terrence is a very smart, talented player who brings experience to our safety position," General Manager Marty Hurney said. "We've liked him since he came out of college and feel very fortunate to add him to our roster."
Panthers, Hackett Agree To Two-Year Deal
Determined to end the constant double teams of their star receiver, the Panthers came to terms Monday with Seattle free-agent D.J. Hackett on a two-year, $3.5 million deal.
Hackett is the second receiver the Panthers have added since missing the playoffs last season without a reliable second option after Smith. Muhsin Muhammad was signed last month.
Vikings Could Make Play For Peppers?
The Vikings were nearly $37 million under the NFL's salary cap at the start of free agency and remain $18.6 million under the cap.
If the Carolina Panthers aren't convinced they can re-sign Julius Peppers to a long-term deal, the Vikings could make a play for the defensive end.

Free-agent wide receiver D.J. Hackett will pay a visit to the Carolina Panthers on Friday, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Many consider him to be the best receiver left on the market.
Hackett visited with the Redskins on Wednesday and spent Thursday with the Buccaneers.
