BCS Could Kick Out The Fiesta Bowl
The head of the BCS put the Fiesta Bowl on notice Wednesday: "Follow the letter of the law" or lose its place in college football's lucrative championship system, according to an ESPN.com report.
BCS officials challenged the Fiesta Bowl to persuade them that extravagant and improper spending behind the firing of longtime president and CEO John Junker will never happen again.
Felony Warrant Issued For Aqib Talib
An arrest warrant has been issued for Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib by police in a Dallas suburb.
He is accused of firing a gun at his sister's boyfriend.
Garland police said Tuesday they believe Talib and his mother, Okolo Talib, shot at the man March 21. The man wasn't injured.
Earlier that day, the man had been listed as a suspect in a disturbance and was charged with assault and interference with an emergency phone call from that incident.
Authorities issued arrest warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for Talib and his mother. She turned herself in Tuesday.
Police say Aqib Talib is set to turn himself in later this week.
Bryant Faces Second Lawsuit For $615K
One day after a civil lawsuit was filed against Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant saying he owed $246,000 worth of jewelry to a New York-based company, another civil lawsuit has emerged against him and his adviser David Wells.
Eleow Hunt, a jeweler and ticket broker, said Bryant hasn't paid for jewelry and tickets to sporting events or repaid personal loans that collectively total in excess of $600,000.
The lawsuit says that Bryant, who was about to become a junior at Oklahoma State when the spending spree allegedly began, was supposed to repay Hunt when he signed either an NFL or promotional contract, whichever came first.
Dez Bryant Sued Over $246K Jewelry Tab
Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is being sued for non-payment of $246,000 worth of jewelry by a New York-based company in a civil suit filed Friday in Dallas.
Bryant purchased $267,000 worth of jewelry from A+A Diamonds LTD.
"Is there a relationship between Dez and the jeweler? Yes," Bryant's attorney, Texas state Sen. Royce West said. "The issue is how much is owed and when it's due. That's the issue. I think we'll solve it quickly."
Bryant's most expensive purchase was a $60,000 custom charm bracelet. He made the purchases on four different days last year.
Retirees Sue NFL, Hope To Join Antitrust Suit
Four former players sued the NFL on Monday in hopes of joining current players in their antitrust fight against the league.
Hall of Fame defensive end Carl Eller, three-time All-Pro running back Priest Holmes and ex-players Obafemi Ayanbadejo and Ryan Collins are listed as plaintiffs in the 44-page complaint filed in federal court in Minneapolis.
The retirees want the NFL lockout lifted to ensure their pensions and health benefits remain funded.
According to the lawsuit, those benefits will end if a collective bargaining agreement is not renewed by next March 11 -- a year after the last one expired.
Shawn Stuckey, an attorney for the retired players, said he intends to ask the court to combine the retirees' lawsuit with the antitrust suit filed by Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and others.
Talib 'Person Of Interest' In Shooting
Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib has been named a "person of interest" in a March 21 shooting.
Police in Garland, Texas tabbed Talib with the title following an altercation between his sister, his sister's boyfriend and his mother.
Pending an investigation, Talib could be arrested and charged with anything from discharging a firearm within a municipality to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Dallas Observer.
Jason Peters Arrested For Resisting Arrest
Eagles offensive lineman Jason Peters, 29, was arrested early Saturday for allegedly blaring music and resisting arrest in Shreveport, La.
Police said they heard the music coming from Peters' vehicle and when they approached the Eagles lineman, he refused to provide identification, leading to the resisting arrest charge.
He was released on bond soon after.
According to TMZ, Peters was in town as a celebrity guest of rapper Rick Ross, who was arrested Saturday in a separate incident in Shreveport.
Packers' Jolly Arrested Again For Drugs
Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly has been arrested on another drug charge in Houston, according to an ESPN.com report.
Houston police spokesman Victor Senties said Jolly was pulled over about 12:45 a.m. Friday. Senties said officers discovered a bottle containing 600 grams of codeine under the passenger's seat and another bottle with an unidentified substance in the driver's side door.
Jolly was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
Ex-Raiders Lineman Barret Robbins Gets 5-Year Prison Sentence
Former Raiders lineman Barret Robbins has been sentenced to five years in Florida prison for a drug-related probation violation, according to an ESPN.com report.
A Miami-Dade County judge imposed the sentence Friday, more than a year after crack cocaine was found in Robbins' car after a traffic stop near Dallas.
Browns Fan Sues NFL Over Lockout
A Browns fan sued the NFL and its teams over the player lockout, claiming it violated his contract to buy tickets through his personal seat license.
Ken Lanci, a self-made millionaire who ran unsuccessfully last year for the top county government job in Cleveland, filed the lawsuit Thursday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
"It's a fight between billionaires and millionaires," Lanci said. "There isn't any sympathy for multimillionaires. It's just not going to happen. And somebody has to stand up and say, 'Enough's enough.' "
The lawsuit asked for damages of more than $25,000 from the Browns on both breach of contract and bad faith counts and more than $25,000 from the league and its teams for alleged contract interference.
