Sources: Players Facing Drug Testing Discipline

Oct 29, 2014 1:34 AM

A perception among players that there would be a grace period before drug testing began once the lockout ended could result in discipline for a number of NFL players, according to league sources. Redskins tight end Fred Davis and offensive tackle Trent Williams are among the players that could be fined or suspended. According to an NFL source, a central issue is that NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith led players to believe there would be a 30-day grace period for drug testing following the lockout, yet the NFLPA never asked for one. Yahoo! Sports reported that 11 players face punishment, prompting some to question how Smith handled this issue as players now fight for their rights after testing positive for recreational drug use just days after the lockout ended.

Penn State AD Faces Perjury Charges

Jul 18, 2014 1:30 AM

A former defensive coordinator who was integral for decades to Penn State's success has been accused of sexually abusing eight boys. The school's athletic director and an administrator were charged with perjury and failing to report what they knew about the allegations in a case that prosecutors said uncovered a years-long trail of a predator and those who protected him. Former coach Jerry Sandusky, 67, of State College, was arrested Saturday and released on $100,000 bail after being arraigned on 40 criminal counts. Athletic director Tim Curley, 57, and Penn State vice president for finance and business Gary Schultz, 62, both of Boalsburg, were expected to turn themselves in Monday in Harrisburg. Schultz's position includes oversight of the university's police department. Longtime head coach Joe Paterno, who has more victories than any coach in the history of Division I football, was not charged, authorities said, and the grand jury report did not appear to implicate him in wrongdoing.
