Philbin: Dolphins QB Race Is 'Very Close'

Sep 5, 2014 11:38 AM

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said there is no clear leader in the clubhouse yet in the team's three-player quarterback race. "I think it's very close," Philbin told Joe Rose on WQAM. "I think it's very close. I think they all bring different attributes to the table. I will say that the room itself, the quality of the individuals in the room, I think is excellent." The Miami Herald wrote earlier this week that Matt Moore looked better than rookie Ryan Tannehill at Tuesday's practice, although Moore was far from perfect. The newspaper suggested Tannehill struggled. David Garrard -- who seems destined to be the No. 3 quarterback -- is home this week with his wife after his house suffered storm damage over the weekend.

The Ravens aren't sharing Suggs' confidence publicly, but Don Banks of SI.com reports that they are holding out hope that he can contribute something to the team before the year is out. They hope that Suggs can return as a situational pass rusher in the final weeks of the regular season.

Jason Babin Plans To Run With Bulls

Oct 31, 2014 11:36 AM

Eagles defensive end Jason Babin said he plans on running with the bulls in Spain this July. "It's kind of a rite of passage," Babin said after his first OTA on Wednesday. "It's a stamp. I guess in my brain I have a figurative man card that's got certain punches that need to be punched out." One may question whether running with the bulls in Pamplona, where a few have suffered significant injuries and sometimes death, is proper behavior for a professional football player. "Everyone thinks it's dangerous and hazardous," Babin said. "But it's not, if "done correctly and soberly." "Bulls can't turn the corner on cobblestone, so as long as you're on the inside you're going to be alright," he added. "I broke the tape down like game film."

Harbaugh: 49ers Didn't Chase Manning

Oct 31, 2014 6:12 AM

Jim Harbaugh insists that the 49ers intended to use Alex Smith as their quarterback even while they examined the possibility of signing then-free agent Peyton Manning. Harbaugh addresses what he says is the "erroneous perception that we were flirting with Peyton Manning." The coach called the reports silly and phony, then spoke at length about his and the team's ongoing support for Smith. "I've said it all along, Alex Smith has been our quarterback," Harbaugh said. "There's no scenario other than Alex choosing to sign with another team that we would have considered him not as our quarterback. It's time to set the record straight. "Alex Smith is our quarterback, was our quarterback and (we) had every intention of always bringing him back." San Francisco was among a handful of teams looking at Manning earlier this offseason.
