The Redskins will approach Jason Taylor about reducing his $8.5 million salary, according to sources. Some believe he would even go back to Miami at a discount, according to Jason LaCanfora, if Bill Parcells would take him, to finish his career there. Regardless, coming back to Washington for half his salary seems unrealistic at this point.

With Tom Brady now expected to be ready for the start of the 2009 season, speculation has increased that the Patriots might look to place quarterback Matt Cassel on the block. "Would you take a Mark Sanchez or a [Matthew] Stafford out of college in the first round, or would you take a Matt Cassel, who has won big games, is 11-5 already, and has experience under his belt for a first-rounder? You'd take Matt Cassel, I would think," former coach Steve Mariucci said. "He's a healthy young guy who has experience. So yeah, he's a first-round [pick] easy. More than a first round. First and something else." Mariucci, who has a reputation of working with solid quarterbacks, continued to praise Cassel. "I would put a high value on him, but keep in mind that he's a young quarterback playing on a very good team," he said. "Ben Roethlisberger was 15-1 as a rookie playing on a very good team. Not often does a youngster at quarterback have that advantage. [Cassel] was fortunate to play on a championship, dynasty type team and be 11-5, a terrific job. You put him on a bad team, and obviously he's not going to be as productive. But he showed some physical skills that were very encouraging. He showed some savvy. Maturity. He did a good job handling the media and handling the situation there with Tom Brady. Those type of things add up, they're all positives."

Anquan Boldin still wants a new contract and appears unhappy in Arizona, which has fueled rumors that he could become available this offseason. If the Giants ultimately decide that they won't bring Plaxico Burress back because of his off-field issues, a trade for Boldin would make a lot of sense for New York.

Wide receiver Anquan Boldin is unhappy with his contract, but that doesn't mean the Cardinals will be looking to trade him this offseason. "We've often talked about building this team under a core philosophy," Cardinals' GM Rod Graves said. "How could you have a core and not include Anquan Boldin?" Boldin has two years left on his current contract. A suitor would have to offer "a very rich proposition" according to Graves.

When word spread last spring that Anquan Boldin wanted out of Arizona, the Eagles were one of many teams to call with an offer. Philadelphia offered cornerback Lito Sheppard and little else and were quickly shot down by the Cardinals. Now, months later, Boldin will face the team that wanted him in the NFC Championship Game.

The Cleveland Browns will reportedly try to trade Kellen Winslow this offseason. 'I know that the Browns will trade tight end Kellen Winslow this off-season and that he has not been a part of any discussions with coaching candidates,' writes Michael Lombardi of NationalFootballPost.com.

Darren Sproles, who will be a free agent this spring, wants to stay in San Diego but there may not be room for him and LaDainian Tomlinson in town. Chargers' General Manager A.J. Smith said he would love for Sproles, taken in the fourth round in 2005, to remain with the team. "I don't think the Chargers can keep him unless they decide to make him the guy," an agent said. "He's going to be paid like the guy." Of course, that would involve trading LaDainian Tomlinson, who at 29 has three years left on his contract.

Chiefs' running back Larry Johnson went public last week with his desire to be traded, so his situation figures to be a top priority for whomever Kansas City hires as general manager. Before the 2007 season, Johnson signed a contract extension that included a $12 million signing bonus,although he hasn't been the same player since. RealGM Note: Johnson was ranked 39th amongst running backs in FIC despite playing in just 12 games. He also had a better yards per carry average in 2008 than he did when he rushed for 1,789 back in 2006.

Edgerrin James told ESPN's Bob Holtzman that he won't return to the Arizona Cardinals next season even though he has a year remaining on his contract. "I can't go through this again," James told ESPN. "I didn't come here to block. I'm not an offensive lineman." James, who re-emerged as the Cardinals' feature back in the regular-season finale after weeks of pass-blocking and barely touching the football, told reporters Thursday that his last game of the season will probably be his last in Arizona. "I think the feeling is mutual," he said, laughing. "It's not something I'm going to contest."
