Welcome to the top 30 recap; 10 quarterbacks, 10 wideouts, and 10 running backs, all of whom you probably forgot to start. Monday night won?t be included although it looks to be a fantasy barnburner as the over/under is 49.
Top Ten Quarterbacks
1. Marc Bulger: 328td, 3/0
I trade him, he goes off. It?s not rocket science people. True, he torched the Lions but the points all spend the same.
2. Mark Brunell: 329yds, 3/1
Brunell got in a shootout with a Jags D that had previously butchered Roethlisberger. He won the shootout too.
3. Byron Leftwich: 289yds, 3/1
The loser of the aforementioned shootout. The only real knock on him was all the sacks he took.
4. Drew Brees: 349yds, 1/0
He got 86 of those yards and the only TD in garbage time against the Panthers but he?s on pace for 4200 yards. Coming from a former punch line team this guy is big value right now.
5. Damon Huard: 208yd, 2/0
I checked the stats a few times to make sure I wasn?t hallucinating. He threw only five incompletions and had the highest QB rating of the day. I don?t even have a joke, this is all true.
6. Rex Grossman: 232yds, 2/0
Plastered a Seahawks defense that somehow refused to blitz. A good Grossman means beating the Bears will be most difficult.
7. J.P. Losman: 328yds, 1/1
He faces Chicago next week which means the one out of every 30 or so owners that own him won?t be starting him next weekend.
8. Charlie Frye: 192yds, 3/2
He?s getting better every week and for a second year player he looks shockingly good. The bad news is his next five opponents are: Carolina, Denver, the Jets, San Diego and Atlanta.
9. Jon Kitna: 280yds, 2/2
You have to love Kitna under Martz. They will never lead so he will always be passing. The perfect fantasy QB.
10. Brad Johnson: 267yds, 1/2
What can I say? It was a lackluster weekend for the QBs.
Top Ten Running Backs
1. Laurence Maroney: 125yds, 2td
He?s the best rookie back in the league, way better than that kid related to the president. I wonder what Corey Dillon makes of all this.
2. LaMont Jordan: 128yds, 1td
What are you doing here? We thought you were gone! Welcome back my friend.
3. Larry Johnson: 101yds, 2td
I?m pretty sure they were taking fans out of the stands to score on the 49ers there at the end.
4. Thomas Jones: 98yds, 2td
He did more than enough to keep the Seahawks D honest which allowed old Rex to shine too. It?s a shame he can?t catch.
5. Kevin Jones: 93yds, 2td
This guy, on the other hand, caught at least five receptions for the fourth game. Now for the bad news, he only had four yards receiving.
6. Jerious Norwood: 106yds, 1td
He did it on six carries too. As a Dunn owner it pains me that the Falcons have two runners better than him, and one starts at QB.
7. Julius Jones: 122yds, 1td
He ran through the Titans fairly easily. The Cowboys having Owens and Glenn puts Julius in a prime position to feast.
8. Clinton Portis: 112yds, 1td
It?s a little concerning that it took him 27 carries and that his longest run was 15 yards but I?m guessing owners would take 100 carries at two yards per if need be.
9. Michael Vick: 101yds, 0 td
No, he?s not a running back but if you start him he puts up running back points so he deserves a mention. Also, he doesn?t throw well enough to ever make that other top ten. Now if only he?d spend a little time at wideout.
10. Deshaun Foster: 105yds, 1td
New Orleans did pretty well with Atlanta?s runners so Foster earned his yards here. Plus he was very efficient with only 16 carries.
Top Ten Wide Receivers
1. Santana Moss: 4 catches, 138yds, 3td
He was on a different planet on Sunday. Three out of four catches were scores, makes me wonder why they would ever throw to anyone else.
2. Roy Williams: 5 catches, 93yds, 2td
The former Husky is starting to play some ball, he also benefited from the fantasy bonanza that was Washington-Jacksonville. I think we were owed from Dolphins-Texans.
3. Mike Furrey: 8 catches, 82yd, 2d
He?s already doubled his career receptions coming into this season after game four. It?s now Furrey?s world, we?re renting.
4. Marques Colston: 5 catches, 132yds, 1td
There?s a 50/50 shot he?s available in your league and if he is you should scoop him up. Brees is clearly taking him out for steak dinner.
5. Terry Glenn: 5 catches, 54yds, 2td
T.O. owners hate him because he steals touchdowns but they probably got him about 7 rounds later than Owens which makes them evil geniuses.
6. Steve Smith 10 catches, 87tds, 1td
The mighty mouse is back in the end zone. There?s very little reason to think he won?t be one of the top two from here on out.
7. Torry Holt: 6 catches, 102yds, 1td
What can you say? Always catches, always performs, he?s scored the last three weekends and he plays Green Bay and the missing secondary next week.
8. Roy Williams: 9 catches, 139yds, 0td
Everyone who?s had him the past two seasons should get cash payment in karma retribution from whoever owns him now. He?s finally a real boy.
9. Isaac Bruce: 7 catches, 100yds, 0td
Doesn?t it seem like he?s played forever? I guess 13 years experience would put him right at the dawn of widespread fantasy football. He?s not the same guy he was, but he?ll still pull off big games every so often.
10. Ronnie Brown: 8 catches, 62yds, 0td
Follow my logic: If Culpepper can?t run or throw doesn?t Ronnie catching two yards dump passes and making something of them become quite valuable? I think eight catches is just scratching the surface of how many times Culpepper can throw it two yards (if that seemed overly bitter, yes I?m a Dolphins fan).
Check back next week for another exciting edition of the recap!
