The Atlanta Falcons surprised many when they used the No. 8 pick on Michael Penix, a month after giving Kirk Cousins a four-year, $180 million contract.

The Falcons weren't the only team highly interested in Penix.

According to a report, the Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders all attempted to trade into the top 10 for the former Washington quarterback.

The Chicago Bears led off the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting Caleb Williams out of USC as expected with the Washington Commanders taking Jayden Daniels at No. 2 and the New England Patriots also taking a quarterback at No. 3 in Drake Maye.

New Orleans Saints defensive end Chase Young is expected to miss part of training camp after undergoing a neck procedure, according to a source.

Young signed a one-year deal worth a guaranteed $13 million following his visit with the Saints on Monday. The Saints were among the teams aware of the neck issue.

He missed the Washington Commanders' season opener last season because of a neck stinger sustained in the first preseason game. While Young was initially expected to delay his return until Week 3, he played the next week and did not miss another game in 2023.

Defensive end Chase Young has signed a one-year, fully guaranteed $13 million deal with the New Orleans Saints, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler on Monday.

The Saints announced the agreement but did not release terms.

Young, who was traded from the Washington Commanders to the San Francisco 49ers this past season, visited with the Saints on Monday and likes the setup of the team's defense, sources told ESPN.

The New Orleans Saints and Tyrann Mathieu have agreed to a two-year, $13 million deal.

Mathieu joined the Saints in 2022 on a three-year, $33 million deal after three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The New Orleans Saints and Tyrann Mathieu are working on a renegotiated contract and expect to have it done soon, according to a report.

Because of how his contract is structured, cutting Mathieu would only save the Saints about $1.7 million in cap space this year.

Reworking the contract can result in greater cap savings this year -- at the expense of a bigger cap charge next year.

The New Orleans Saints have informed safety Marcus Maye that they will release him at the start of the league year, according to a report.

Maye signed a three-year, $22.5 million contract with the Saints as a free agent in 2022. He missed 17 games over the last two seasons, playing in just as many.

If Maye is designated a post-June 1 cut, he will count $2.414 million in dead money and open $7.235 million in cap space.

The New Orleans Saints are restructuring quarterback Derek Carr's contract in a move that is expected to give the team around $23 million in salary cap relief, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Friday.

Klint Kubiak has reached a deal with the New Orleans Saints to become the team's next offensive coordinator, according to a report.

Kubiak, 36, had served as the San Francisco 49ers' offensive passing game specialist under Kyle Shanahan.

Prior to joining the 49ers in 2023, Kubiak spent 2022 as the Denver Broncos' quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator.

The New Orleans Saints will hire Klint Kubiak as offensive coordinator. 

Kubiak is currently passing game coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers under Kyle Shanahan.
