Kolb Focusing On 'Here And Now'

Sep 15, 2014 8:03 PM

Kevin Kolb has proved himself as a viable NFL starter in the absence of Donovan McNabb after waiting two seasons to get his opportunity. ?The biggest thing to do is take it week by week and just stay focused," said Kolb. "If you are trying to look at the whole picture you get into trouble doing that kind of thing. Again, like I said before when all of this started, I am just going to play for the here and now and keep working like I have been. The opportunity will come when I get my shot again and when it does hopefully I can ride it out as a starter from then on.?

Eagles' Jackson On Pace To Eclipse T.O.'s Stellar 2004 Campaign

May 16, 2014 10:54 PM

Over the last decade, the Philadelphia Eagles have made numerous trips to the NFC Title game but only one Super Bowl appearance. Many blamed the team's lack of a big-game wide receiver for their inability to get over the hump, but the acquisition of Terrell Owens in 2004 momentarily solved that problem. Owens caught 77 passes for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns that season, even though he missed the season's final two games due to injury. With a hobbled Owens, they nearly defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX, but fell short in 24-21 loss. Now, five years later, the Eagles may finally have another big-game receiver in second-year man DeSean Jackson. Jackson, who led the team in receiving in his rookie year with 62 catches for 912 yards and two touchdowns, is on pace to nearly match Owens' numbers from Philadelphia's Super Bowl season in 2004. Through the season's first three games, Jackson has 12 receptions for 259 yards and two touchdowns. His yards per catch average is an excellent 21.6. If you project his numbers over the full season, you'll get a line that looks similar to those of Owens five seasons ago -- 64 catches for 1,381 yards and 11 touchdowns. Fewer catches, yes, but more yards due to Jackson's superior speed. Also, the 11 touchdowns may not directly match the 14 Owens recorded, but DeSean does already have one punt return for a touchdown in 2009. Jackson may be five inches shorter than Owens and lack the Iron Man physique, but his big plays so far this season have allowed him to jump into the future Hall of Famers shoes. The Eagles have had just one 1,000-yard receiver since Owens' efforts in 2004. Kevin Curtis eclipsed the mark in 2007.

Reid Expects McNabb To Face Buccaneers

Sep 15, 2014 8:03 PM

Eagles head coach Andy Reid expects quarterback Donovan McNabb to be ready for the team's Week 5 game against the Buccaneers. Philadelphia has a bye this weekend. "I think he will, but we'll see how it goes," Reid told the Philadelphia Inquirer after the team's 34-14 win over Kansas City. Reid added that there won't be a quarterback controversy despite Kevin Kolb's back-to-back 300-yard performances. "Donovan is the quarterback of the team," Reid said. "That's not a problem. I don't think it's a problem with Kevin, and I don't think it's a problem for our team, and I know it's not a problem for me."

Vick On Field For First Time In 33 Months

Feb 16, 2014 7:51 AM

Michael Vick made his 2009 debut in the first quarter of Philadelphia's game against Kansas City on Sunday. Vick lined up as a wide receiver in the game's second play from scrimmage, went in motion and faked a handoff that went to rookie running back LeSean McCoy. The appearance was Vick's first on an NFL field since Dec. 31, 2006, when he was with the Falcons. He served an 18-month stint in prison on a dogfighting conviction.

Eagles To Use Kolb-Vick QB Combination

Oct 7, 2014 10:29 PM

With Donovan McNabb doubtful for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, the Eagles are prepared to use both Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick in his place. Kolb started for the Eagles in last Sunday's loss to the Saints, while Vick will be making his debut with the team as he comes off a suspension. "We put some things in for him," coach Andy Reid said of Vick. "He will be up and we'll go from there." Vick is expected to run Philadelphia's version of the wildcat offense.

Vick Thought He'd Be Starting

Jul 19, 2014 10:20 PM

Michael Vick thought he'd be a starting quarterback upon his return to the NFL. "This is not the exact scenario I thought would play out," Vick told CBS in an interview that will air on Sunday. "I thought I'd be playing with a team and actually starting." Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg confirmed Thursday that Vick will play in Sunday's game against the Chiefs. It will be his first appearance in a regular-season NFL game since 2006. "He'll play," Mornhinweg said. "How much? We'll see as the week goes on. I think he's in top physical condition. We'll see how he handles the few things that we have in for him."
