Jon Gruden: I Don't See Us Trading Derek Carr

Oct 26, 2018 10:35 PM

Jon Gruden addressed reporters on Wednesday for the first time since the Oakland Raiders traded Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys.

Rumors have swirled that more deals are coming as the Raiders (1-5) are going in a new direction without Cooper and Khalil Mack, but Gruden denies those whispers.

"I don't see us making any more trades," he said. "I didn't see us making a trade the other day. I really didn't. But sometimes, like I said, your plans change whether you like it or not. You don't know who's going to call you and what they're going to say, you really don't. ... I don't see us making any more trades. But I'll never say never again to anybody."

The coach was then asked about Derek Carr specifically.

"I don't see us making any more trades," Gruden repeated. "Certainly, I don't see us trading our quarterback."

Raiders' Belief In Derek Carr Has 'Deteriorated'

Oct 23, 2018 10:12 AM

The Oakland Raiders were building their current era around Derek Carr, Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper. Since Jon Gruden became coach this offseason, the Raiders have since traded Mack and Cooper, while Carr's future is uncertain.

"The belief in him has deteriorated, perhaps to irreparable levels," writes Marcus Thompson. "Team sources describe a fractured relationship between Carr and his teammates, mostly because confidence in him has waned. It certainly didn’t help when film showed what looked like him crying after being sacked and injuring his arm. They saw his face. They heard his whimper. They witnessed him explain on the sidelines. They assuredly watched it again in film session. It’s hard to see how Carr can lead this team again.

"There are already rumblings about Carr being a sitting duck. If the whispers are accurate, the Raiders have already concluded that Carr is not the quarterback of the future and the question is how do they go about moving on. His game is marked by a mental fragility that doesn’t inspire confidence."

Carr signed a five-year, $125 million extension in 2017.

Cowboys, Colts, Washington Interested In Amari Cooper

Oct 21, 2018 6:25 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are conducting due diligence on Amari Cooper in consideration of a trade.

Cooper is believed to be on the trade block by the Oakland Raiders.

Washington and the Indianapolis Colts have also reached out to the Raiders on Cooper.

The Cowboys traded first-, third-, sixth- and seventh-round picks to the Detroit Lions in 2008 for wide receiver Roy Williams.

Cooper is in the NFL's concussion protocol, but the Raiders are on a bye this week and don't play again until Oct. 28 against Indianapolis.

Jon Gruden: Raiders Aren't Tanking Anything

Oct 17, 2018 10:03 AM

Jon Gruden refuted the notion that the Oakland Raiders are tanking.

"I'll say this: We aren't tanking anything," Gruden said. "I hear the hatred out there, some of the rumors that we are tanking it to get a first-round pick or a higher pick. We are not getting up at 4 o'clock in the morning to tank it. Ain't nobody tanking it.

"I don't know who wrote that or who said that or who thinks that, but that isn't the case here. We are going to continue to work hard, continue to build our team, and that was part of the message."

The Raiders traded away Khalil Mack on the eve of the season following his holdout.

Oakland has lost their past two games by a combined 53-13 to the Chargers and Seahawks.

Raiders Seeking First Round Pick For Amari Cooper

Oct 15, 2018 5:42 PM

The Oakland Raiders are seeking a first round pick for Amari Cooper.

The Raiders have interest in trading Cooper before the Oct. 30 deadline.

"The Raiders have had some conversations about potentially trading him," Rapoport reported on The Aftermath. "My understanding is that they have asked for a first-round pick in exchange for Amari Cooper, which seems incredibly significant. And it might make it difficult if not impossible to trade him."
