Jenkins: Favre's 'Superstar Status' Caused 'Animosity' In New York
Kris Jenkins took some shots at former Jets teammate Brett Favre on Friday night's NFL Total Access on NFL Network.
Jenkins said Favre's presence caused a rift in the New York locker room in 2008.
"No, no it was not," Jenkins said when asked if the team's chemistry was good.
He didn't call out Favre or any of his teammates in particular, Jenkins cited some negative comments made by some Jets in the papers which he says, "destroy the morale of the locker room."
"It was a snowball effect," Jenkins added. "And once it was a snowball effect, and some things started happening here, there -- then the next thing you know it gets out of control, and the team was lost at that point."
Green Bay's Top Offseason Priority Is Re-Sign NT Pickett
According to multiple sources assembled at the Senior Bowl, the Packers' off-season plan doesn't include retaining all of their free agents.
The Packers' top priority is re-signing nose tackle Ryan Pickett, who is one of five Packers set to become unrestricted free agents.
There have been ongoing contract discussions between the Packers and Pickett's agent, Kennard McGuire, for some time. There is hope on both sides that a contract will be reached in the next month, if not the next few weeks.
Beyond Pickett, the Packers haven't entered into contract talks with any of their other free agents.
In the unrestricted category are left tackle Chad Clifton, right tackle Mark Tauscher, linebacker Aaron Kampman and running back Ahman Green.
New Seattle GM Won't Take Any Packers Scouts Until After Draft
John Schneider, a Packers director of football operations the last two years, said after his introductory press conference as the Seahawks' new general manager that he won't make any changes to the scouting or personnel staff.
Schneider has worked with several members of Seattle's scouting staff, including when he was with the Seahawks in 2000.
"Why would you change?? Schneider said after the news conference. ?Look who?s already here. These are some great people who do a great job.?
If Schneider brings in any scouts from outside the organization, it probably wouldn't happen until after the NFL draft in late April.
Packers Targeting Secondary Additions
Ted Thompson and the Packers intend to improve their secondary during free agency.
If Thompson doesn?t do it in free agency, he will be pressured to spend a high draft pick on a defensive back that can contribute immediately.
?I feel like there is maybe just a couple of pieces away, a player here, a player there, and I feel like we can get to where we want to be,? said Charles Woodson last week.
Packers Expecting Quiet Free Agency
If there?s not a new collective-bargaining agreement between the NFL and its players? union, the Packers will have only five unrestricted free agents going into the offseason. They also have player-development potential, considering they were the youngest team in the NFL for the fourth straight season.
But in his season wrap-up press conference Wednesday, coach Mike McCarthy referred several times to the theme of change as necessary for growing a team in the NFL. He even refused to rule out making any changes on his coaching staff a year after his overhaul on defense helped the team rebound to an 11-5 season and trip to the playoffs.
?You need to rebuild, reload, restructure,? McCarthy said. ?We have a good foundation. We have a program, a blueprint that works, but we need to improve it because we did not get past the first round (of the playoffs)."
Rolle's Rodgers Comments Were To Teammate, Not Yahoo Reporter
Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle unintentionally provided bulletin board material this week for the Saints.
What set things off was this quote attributed to Rolle about Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers that reporter Michael Silver wrote on yahoo.com:
"Let me tell you something - that dude is scary. We have a great defense and we were up on him and ready to pounce, and he found ways to tear us apart.
"I don't ever want to face him again in my life. I am dead serious. I'll face Drew Brees any day of the way before I face him again."
Brees brushed off the remark on Tuesday telling reporters, "I think that's just part of the game. We've encountered that over the year. The fact is, that doesn't affect the way I prepare."
Rolle, however, said his quote was taken out of context, that Silver "twisted and turned" his words around.
"It's a complete and total lie," Rolle said. "First of all, I wasn't even talking to Michael Silver. Adrian (Wilson) and myself were having a private conversation and I was simply praising Aaron Rodgers.
"(Silver) decided to throw Drew Brees' name out there and I was like, 'I'm not even talking about Drew Brees. I'm talking about Aaron Rodgers. . . . I have all the respect in the world for Drew Brees. His game speaks for itself."
Raiders Interested In Winston Moss Again
According to a report on NFL.com today, the Oakland Raiders might be interested in hiring Packers linebackers coach Winston Moss for their head coach, though owner Al Davis hasn?t yet fired his current coach, Tom Cable. Numerous reports have said Cable expects to be fired.
Moss interviewed for the Raiders head-coaching position last offseason.
Woodson Named Top Defensive Player
Packers defensive back Charles Woodson has been named The Associated Press 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Woodson tied for the league lead with nine interceptions, returning three for touchdowns.
"It's a great honor," Woodson said Tuesday. "I felt like I put a lot into the game, mentally and physically -- your body's always beat up -- and it's great to be recognized."
Woodson received 28 votes Tuesday from a nationwide panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the NFL.
Rodgers Downplays Potential Facemask Penalty
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn't dwelling on a potential facemark penalty that should have extended the team's game against the Cardinals on Sunday.
Facing third-and-6 on the first drive of overtime, Arizona cornerback Michael Adams blitzed Rodgers and knocked the ball out. It bounced off Rodgers' foot and into the hands of linebacker Karlos Dansby, who ran for a touchdown and a 51-45 victory.
Video showed that Adams appeared to grab Rodgers' facemask, but the officials didn't call any penalty.
Rodgers said Monday that he is more concerned over his own mistakes than any possible no-calls.
Rolle Never Wants To Face Rodgers Again
The Cardinals may have advanced, but Arizona defensive back Antrel Rolle never wants to face Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers again.
"Let me tell you something ? that dude is scary," Rolle said of Rodgers. "We have a great defense, and we were up on him and ready to pounce, and he found ways to tear us apart.
"I don't ever want to face him again in my life. I am dead serious. I'll face Drew Brees any day of the week before I face him again."
Rodgers completed 28-for-42 passes, throwing for 422 yards and four touchdowns in Green Bay's 51-45 overtime loss to Arizona.
"Hey, nobody ever said the guy was a bad player. But to have him actually do what he did to us in the second half was unbelievable. He was on fire. The whole half. The guy was just amazing," added safety Adrian Wilson.
