Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft Had Tense Meeting Before Tom Brady Roast

May 10, 2024 9:56 AM

Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft had a tense meeting before Sunday's live roast of Tom Brady.

Julian Edelman and Drew Bledsoe discussed the three-hour roast during the latest episode of Edelman's "Games with Names" podcast and described the scene in the green room before the event.

Edelman and Bledsoe were both in the green room with Belichick, along with Rob Gronkowski and Randy Moss, when Kraft arrived.

"Then Kraft walks in ... Belichick's kind of holding court," Bledsoe recalled. "As he's in the middle of the story, Kraft walks in, and so you guys all go over to say hi to Kraft."

"The tension in that room, though, could cut f---ing glass," Edelman said.

Bledsoe added that Belichick and Kraft did at one point "break it down and got together for, I don't know, 10 minutes at least." But the former New England Patriots quarterback agreed with Edelman's assessment about the tension in the room, saying "it was very real, it was very real."

Kellen Moore On Eagles' Offense: 'There Will Be Tweaks'

May 10, 2024 10:06 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles brought Kellen Moore in as offensive coordinator to fix an offense than averaged just 18 points over their final six games last season.

Moore says the keys to success will be the balancing act in getting Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, Devonta Smith, Saquon Barkley and Dallas Goedert all involved in the offense.

"I think everyone's got their different flavor from a systematic approach," Moore said. "Our real focus here, as we've gone through this process, is we've got a lot of good going on. We can't lose the good in the reps that Jalen and A.J. have developed and Dallas (Goedert) has developed and this offensive line has developed. How can we build off of those things and really connect the whole thing?"

Often showcasing a middling passing attack and a top-10 rushing game that wasn't used enough, Philly's offense lacked an identity in the second half of the 2023 season.

"There will be tweaks," Moore said. "There will be changes. Everything is constantly evolving. That's part of this whole offseason program. We got to the first week of actually being on the field with these guys. Once you get on the field, things just start evolving."

Raiders Comfortable With Gardner Minshew, Aidan O'Connell At QB

May 10, 2024 10:03 AM

The Las Vegas Raiders didn't draft a quarterback last month.

Ultimately, the Raiders are comfortable with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell at quarterback.

"That's the plan is to have both those guys really compete through the offseason program, but more so in training camp, and we'll see how it plays out," general manager Tom Telesco said.

"I thought Aidan did an excellent job last year in a really difficult situation where the head coach changed, the coordinator changed, and he played really good football down the stretch. I've had a chance to be around him a little bit more in the building and you kind of see the quarterback intangibles that are there, which is nice to have, that you have to have as a franchise quarterback.

"And then with Gardner, you know, Gardner played well last year with the Colts. I mean, he was in the Pro Bowl, so obviously had a pretty good year. He's always performed at a high level when he's given that opportunity, so to have both those guys here competing for the job, we'll see how it goes."

Skowronek's offensive playing time dwindled from 82% in 2022 to 19% last season as he finished with 66 yards on eight catches.

Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers Have $10K Offensive ROY Bet

May 10, 2024 9:53 AM

Former LSU teammates Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers have a $10,000 bet on the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Nabers first mentioned the bet on "The Pivot" podcast with Ryan Clark. Daniels confirmed the wager during an interview on the "All Facts No Brakes" podcast with Keyshawn Johnson. It could be a short-lived wager.

The Washington Commanders selected Daniels with the second pick while at No. 6 the New York Giants picked Nabers, Daniels' favorite receiving target last season.

"Man, he wasn't supposed to tell nobody," Daniels said of the bet. "We got a little something going on."

Daniels also confirmed that it was for "10" when asked by Johnson after Nabers had said "whoever lose gotta pay, I think it's $10,000 cash."

One team source said the education for rookies on the gambling policy will take place during their rookie minicamp, which begins Thursday with orientation sessions. The bet could end up being cancelled afterward.

Terrion Arnold: Raiders Used Coin Toss To Determine First-Round Pick

May 9, 2024 9:02 AM

The Las Vegas Raiders nearly selected Terrion Arnold with the 13th overall pick in the NFL Draft last month, says the cornerback.

Instead, the Raiders used the pick on tight end Brock Bowers. According to Arnold, Las Vegas used a coin toss to determine whether to take Arnold or Bowers.

"(The Lions) knew that the Raiders were a possibility," Arnold told "The Next Round" podcast this week. "And actually the Raiders coach, they called me after the draft, and they were like, 'We actually had a coin toss between you and Brock Bowers. It landed on him.' I was like, 'Oh wow.'"

Raiders general manager Champ Kelly told reporters Wednesday he "can't confirm" whether an actual coin toss occurred, commenting only that Las Vegas is "excited to get Brock here" as part of the offense.

Joe Burrow Suggests All-Star Break If NFL Moves To 18 Games

May 9, 2024 8:51 AM

It seems inevitable that the NFL will move to an 18-game schedule in the near future.

When Roger Goodell admitted as much recently, Joe Burrow was quick to suggest that the league also add an additional bye week.

The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback has since taken the idea further, suggesting that the NFL borrow something from the NBA schedule.

"Maybe you could do something like, the first bye is kind of how we have it now, and the second bye everybody has it at once, and you make it like the Pro Bowl Week, like an All-Star break for the NBA," Burrow said. "I don't know. People get paid a lot of money to have those discussions and make those decisions. But, we'll see how it plays out."

Sources: Jets Shake Up Performance Department

May 9, 2024 8:47 AM

The New York Jets' athletic care and performance department has undergone a shake-up in the aftermath of another injury-plagued season.

Three experts hired to lead the department are no longer with the organization, according to sources.

The department was created three years ago to combat a high injury rate.

Brad DeWeese, who was named the director of high performance in March 2021, has been let go. Also gone are his top assistants -- Robert Sausaman, the assistant director of high performance, and Matt Sams, the director of sports science.

A Jets spokesman declined comment, saying the team doesn't discuss the status of employees.

The departures weren't performance-related, a source said. Sams left on his own accord, another source said.
