Caldwell Puts Rest Above Undefeated Record

Aug 5, 2014 6:29 PM

Colts coach Jim Caldwell will follow in the footsteps of Tony Dungy and put the team's heath above chasing an undefeated record. Indianapolis is 11-0 and has already clinched a postseason berth. Caldwell is expected to begin resting his starters once the Colts lock up home-field advantage. "It'll be somewhat similar to what we've done," he told Peter King of SI. "Going undefeated was always a secondary goal. I don't think we'll put too much emphasis on that."

Eli: Injury Has Nothing To Do With Play

Jul 8, 2014 2:30 AM

Giants quarterback Eli Manning says that his injured foot has nothing to do with his mediocre play as of late. Manning is dealing with a stress reaction in his right foot. "In the games it doesn't bother me and I don't think about it. This is not something I am overly concerned with," Manning said. "It has been the same for probably the last three to four weeks, it's nothing new. I can go out and practice and do all I need to do." He doesn't think he'll eventually need surgery on the foot. "It's one of those things that time and rest is probably the biggest thing," Manning said. "Having the weekend and the bye week and off week helped some. Time to rest it is helpful. It is not something I think will linger or bother me."

Delhomme Has Broken Finger

Aug 2, 2014 4:22 PM

Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme broke a finger on his throwing hand in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Jets. Carolina coach John Fox said that Delhomme may be replaced by Matt Moore this Sunday against Tampa Bay because of the injury. Delhomme threw four interceptions on Sunday, but Fox said that if the quarterback doesn't play it'll be entirely injury-based. "If his finger wasn't an issue, I couldn't with a straight face make a change just with him," Fox said. "That was a combined effort by the offensive players, not just one player. ... It was poor not just by the quarterback." Delhomme has throw eight touchdowns against 18 interceptions this season.
