We are three days away from the National Championship bout between the LSU Tigers and the OSU Buckeyes. These two collegiate programs frequently lose players to the NFL and re-tool year after year. Both these teams take on the persona of their head coaches. LSU, lead by Les Miles, are very emotional and aggressive in their demeanor. On the other hand, OSU appears more composed and conservative in their approach. These two contrasting styles will take flight in the Louisiana Superdome on Monday Night. Leading up to the game, there have been no mentions of players binge eating at the In-N-Out Burger thus far, much to the delight of OSU fans. LSU comes in as the early favorites, coming out of the juggernaut that is known as the SEC. The biggest issue heading into this game is speed. Speed kills according to football personnel at every level. How will OSU counteract the speed of LSU? LSU is supposedly lightning fast at every position, while OSU, who plays in the Big 10, relies more on instinct and anticipation, to make up for their lack of speed. This issue has been constantly brought up ever since last year?s championship when OSU appeared a step slower than Florida. It will be interesting to see how OSU?s defense reacts to the speed of the LSU offense. An OSU defense that ranks No.1 in the nation in just about every major defensive statistical category. LSU, who averages 448 yds/game, most likely will not reach that level in a game that is expected to be very physical and dominated by the running game. While LSU is banking on speed and a homefield advantage to run past OSU, the Buckeyes are using the ?Us vs. the World? approach. Tressel gave all of his players a 10 minute DVD montage of what members of the media are saying about his team. None of which praises them. For a team that was coddled and expected to win in last year?s Championship, this may be the proper motivational tool.
