Two of the most prominent figures in the technology industry are weighing bids for the Seattle Seahawks. Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg and outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook are among at least four potential majority buyers who have expressed interest in the franchise, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Five sources told Front Office Sports they have heard Zuckerberg is considering an offer. Four separate sources confirmed Cook is independently weighing a bid. Cook recently announced he will step down as Apple CEO to become executive VP of the company's board of directors.
Zuckerberg holds a net worth exceeding $206 billion, per Forbes. Cook's net worth stands at $2.9 billion. The identities of the other two potential bidders remain unclear, and no formal offers are known to have been made.
Allen & Co., the bank managing the sale for the Paul G. Allen estate, declined to comment. Representatives for Meta, Apple, Zuckerberg, and Cook did not respond to requests for comment.
Steve Ballmer has also been strongly linked with a bid to buy the Seahawks.
The Seahawks were listed for sale on Feb. 18, ten days after winning Super Bowl LX. Any completed transaction requires approval from three-fourths of NFL owners.
Projected valuations vary among sources, with estimates ranging from $8 billion to more than $10 billion. The sale is widely expected to surpass the record $6.05 billion paid for the Washington Commanders in 2023.
The sale fulfills a directive from the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who mandated the disposal of his sports holdings before his death in 2018. Those assets included the Seahawks, the Portland Trail Blazers, and a 25% stake in MLS's Seattle Sounders.
