Kirk Cousins has signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, his agent confirmed Thursday. The 37-year-old veteran was released by the Atlanta Falcons after two disappointing seasons with the franchise in which he was immediately inserted into a quarterback controversy with Michael Penix Jr.
Cousins, entering his 15th NFL season, ranked fifth among quarterbacks on The Athletic's top 150 free agents of 2026 list.
The Michigan State product ranks 19th in NFL history in regular-season passing yards (44,700) and 15th in touchdown passes (298). However, he started just 30 games over the past three seasons due to injury and inconsistency.
In Atlanta, Cousins posted a 12-10 record as a starter and ranked 24th in EPA per dropback. Last season he guided the Falcons to a 5-3 mark in his starts but finished 27th in completion percentage (61.7%) and 31st in EPA per dropback (-0.02), per TruMedia.
Cousins inked the largest total-value free-agent contract in NFL history when he joined Atlanta in 2024, a four-year pact worth up to $180 million. He collected $100 million over two seasons before his release.
His career earnings of $321.5 million rank third in league history, per Over The Cap. He remains the only quarterback in the all-time top five without a Super Bowl appearance.
A January contract restructuring would have guaranteed Cousins an additional $67.9 million had he remained on Atlanta's roster, effectively making his departure inevitable.
Cousins will join a quarterback room with the Raiders that also features No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza.
