The Detroit Lions have reached an agreement with running back Isiah Pacheco, pairing him with Jahmyr Gibbs in the backfield, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Pacheco fills the void left by David Montgomery, who was traded to the Houston Texans last week.
Pacheco, 27, spent four seasons in Kansas City after he was selected with the 251st pick in the 2022 draft. He worked his way into the starting role midway through his rookie season, displacing former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and went on to help Kansas City win back-to-back Super Bowls.
His most productive campaign came in 2023, when he rushed for a career-high 935 yards and scored nine total touchdowns. A fibula fracture in Week 2 of the 2024 season cost him 10 games and appeared to diminish his explosiveness going forward.
Last season, Pacheco managed 462 rushing yards and two touchdowns across 13 games without recording a single carry of 20 or more yards. Kansas City subsequently agreed to terms with Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III as his replacement.
Pacheco departs as a free agent after completing his rookie contract. His physical, combative running style fits Detroit's ground-oriented offensive identity, and he gives the Lions a proven postseason contributor alongside Gibbs heading into 2026.
