For five days this summer, University of Miami coach Randy Shannon wasn't asked a single question about the Hurricanes' unsettled quarterback situation. "It was nice," Shannon said Monday. Interest in the battle between Kyle Wright and Kirby Freeman isn't high in European cities such as Geneva, Zurich or Paris where Shannon spent part of a three-week vacation recently. But there was no escaping the issue on Monday when Shannon met with media members at the annual ACC Football Kickoff meetings. As he has repeated since spring practice, Shannon said a starter would not be named until the Tuesday before the season opener against Marshall on Sept. 1. But for the first time, Shannon brought up the possibility that he might use both quarterbacks in games no matter who was named the starter. Wright is considered the more accurate passer and has a better arm but lacks Freeman's ability to scramble and make plays when his protection breaks down. Wright, a senior, started 21 straight games before sustaining a season-ending thumb injury last year. Freeman, a junior, started UM's final four games and led the Hurricanes to an MPC Computers Bowl win against Nevada. "There's a chance," Shannon said of a possible quarterback rotation. "If we have to use both of them to win games, we'll do it."
