Pete Carroll said he regrets the decision from the Seattle Seahawks in 2017 not to sign Colin Kaepernick. Carroll also denied that a meeting in 2018 with Kaepernick was canceled due to the franchise's uncertainty about whether he planned to continue protesting during the national anthem.

Kaepernick visited the Seahawks in the spring of 2017 after opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers, making him a free agent.

Carroll said the Seahawks viewed Kaepernick as a starter still and he was confident he would sign elsewhere.

Kaepernick has yet to be signed since becoming a free agent in 2017.

Carroll didn't rule out the possibility of Seattle signing Kaepernick, but he said he likes Geno Smith as the backup behind Russell Wilson.
