The Denver Broncos had less than $100,000 in dead money against their 2013 salary cap before free agency opened.

But because the Broncos and Elvis Dumervil were unable to renegotiate a deal for 2013 before the deadline, he was released in order for the team to avoid paying a $12 million salary guarantee. Dumervil would leave the Broncos and there was also a $4.869 million dead-money charge on the Broncos' cap.

The Broncos also released D.J. Williams with another $1.832 million in dead money, followed by $500,000 due to releasing Willis McGahee in July.

The Broncos now have $7.868 million in dead money, which will limit some of their flexibility in finalizing their roster.
