The San Diego Chargers new look defense will have an interesting test in dealing with the speed of the Oakland Raiders in Week 1.

The Raiders averaged 505 yards of offense last season against the Chargers.

"Be physical," cornerback Quentin Jammer said. "It's how you win football games. You can have all the speed in the world. ... In the one game they beat us last year, they were more physical than we were. I think in this game, you can overcome a lot by going out and trying to impose your will."

"The key to that offense is staying square and staying on your feet," outside linebacker Jarret Johnson said. "Knock them back when you get the chance because that hard zone offense is all about angles, getting you running, chopping the back side and then getting guys out of their gaps. Once one person is out of their gap, it's going to open like the Red Sea, and a lot of times, when it's like that, it's an easy read for those backs."

"It's a challenge," defensive coordinator John Pagano said. "It's one of those things that they're explosive by all parts of their offense, from running back to wide receiver to tight end. The good thing is that we have guys that can run on defense also and put them in position to give them opportunity to make a play."
