Giants general manager Jerry Reese insisted on Tuesday that his first choice is to keep Osi Umenyiora and that the contract dispute with the defensive end is "not personal." "I can say this: The New York Giants, we're a better football team with Osi Umenyiora on our team," Reese said on ESPN NY 98.7 FM. "We respect him as a football player. Our goal is to have Osi play football for the New York Giants and retire as a Giant, that's what we would like to do first. But all of our options are open, like I've said before. Osi makes us a better football team, I do know that." This past Saturday, Reese said "all options are open with respect to that" when asked if the Giants explored trading Umenyiora during the NFL Draft. What got under Umenyiora's skin was when Reese added, "Osi has been offered an extension two years in a row now. So we would still like to make it work." "I don't carry grudges," Reese said during the radio interview. "That's part of the job, in the offseason there's always some controversy about contracts, it's not just one person, it can be several different people with contract situations. I don't think it's personal with respect to players, it's definitely not personal with respect to me. It's just part of the business, there's always some chatter, I call it offseason chatter. There's always some chatter about different situations with contracts during the offseason. "We'll get through this. We'll see what happens moving forward. It's just part of the business. It's not a big problem for me to have guys say some things. I think sometimes people say things they obviously really don't mean. Everybody's trying to make as much money as they can for themselves and their families, everybody understands that. It's not personal."
