Former Atlanta Falcons great Bobby Butler didn?t think his son got a fair chance to play under Lane Kiffin. He strongly supports his son?s decision to transfer from USC. Brice Butler had a promising freshman season at USC but saw his role reduced after the arrival of Kiffin. ?He had a new coach with new ideas, and it?s time for Brice to go ? it?s the right move,? said Bobby Butler, an NFL DB for 12 seasons (all with the Falcons). ?College football is such a big business and I told Brice a long time ago that you have to treat it as a big business. Don?t get so loyal that you trust everything they say, because again, this is a business. ?Just like Pete Carroll left last year, we?re leaving this year.? Butler was redshirted his first year in college but began to emerge the following season, earning Pac-10 All-Freshman first team honors. He was projected to start last season but things changed with the arrival of Kiffin and his recruits, including freshman wide receiver Robert Woods. ?Lane Kiffin did not give Brice a fair chance ? no, he did not give him a fair chance at all,? said Butler. ?You take a kid who is a starter, then the next thing you know you put a kid who has only been [in college practice] for 10 days and start him in front of [Butler]. They didn?t even play the same [wide receiver positions]. ?But it?s all good. It wasn?t meant to be at USC under Lane Kiffin, so he needs to go to a place that is right for him. We?re just going to keep moving forward, and everything is going to work out for Brice.?
