Auburn defeated Oregon by a final of 22-19 in Monday's 2011 BCS National Championship Game. The Ducks tied the game at 19 with 2:22 remaining on a LaMichael James shovel pass reception from Darron Thomas and a two-point conversion to Jeff Maehl. Auburn was able to drive into Oregon territory to setup a 35-yard game winning field goal for Wes Byrum. But Michael Dyer broke through the Ducks' defense to take the ball to the half-yard line with 10 seconds remaining. Auburn attempted one run by Cam Newton for a touchdown, but were stopped by Oregon, setting up Byrum's 19-yard attempt that split the uprights as time expired. The game was the closest BCS Championship Game since Texas defeated USC at the Rose Bowl.
