The defending-champion Saints fell to the up-and-down Cardinals, the Cowboys slipped to the bottom of the NFC East and Philip Rivers threw for more than 400 yards in a losing effort against the Raiders. Baltimore 31, Denver 17 Trench Counter: Ravens +13.3, Broncos -13.3 The Baltimore Ravens (4-1) sprinted to a 17-0 lead and held on to deafeat the Denver Broncos (2-3) at M&T Bank Stadium. Joe Flacco went 14-for-25 with 196 yards, while also scrambling for 20 yards and a touchdown. Ray Rice tallied 133 rushing yards and two scores as Baltimore?s defense held Denver to just seven points through the game?s first three quarters. Kyle Orton?s numbers looked good, 314 yards and two touchdowns, but the Broncos needed a field goal and a touchdown in the fourth quarter to make the score look respectable. The Broncos rushed for just 39 yards on 13 carries that were split between Laurence Maroney, Correll Buckhalter and Andre Brown. Brandon Lloyd continued his resurgence with five catches for 135 yards and two scores. Jacksonville 36, Buffalo 26 Trench Counter: Jaguars -1.8, Bills +1.8 The Buffalo Bills (0-5) secured an early lead against the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-2) but they crumbled in the second half and remain winless on the season. David Garrard went 16-for-20 with 178 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Jacksonville dominated on the ground, rushing for a combined 216 yards with Maurice Jones-Drew leading the way (84 yards). Jacksonville?s three turnovers kept the game close. Ryan Fitzpatrick played very well for the Bills, who simply couldn?t stop the Jaguars offensively. Fitzpatrick had 220 yards and three touchdowns on 20-for-30 passing and Fred Jackson rushed 12 times for 73 yards. Rookie C.J. Spiller rushed five times for 31 yards in the loss. Lee Evans had a nice day for Buffalo, catching five passes for 87 yards and a score. Chicago 23, Carolina 6 Trench Counter: Bears +3.6, Panthers -3.6 The Chicago Bears (4-1) thumped the Carolina Panthers (0-5) in defensive end Julius Peppers? return to his first NFL home. Chicago used a pair of touchdown runs by Matt Forte and strong defense to win without concussed quarterback Jay Cutler. Forte ran for 166 yards on 22 carries and Chester Taylor added 43 yards on his own on 18 touches. Todd Collins and Caleb Hanie combined to go 8-for-19 with 51 yards and four interceptions at Bank of America Stadium. Panthers rookie Jimmy Clausen struggled and was replaced by Matt Moore in the second half. Neither quarterback did well as both had quarterback ratings of lower than 30. DeAngelo Williams (51 yards) and Jonathan Stewart (30) provided the only real offense Carolina could manage all afternoon. Peppers, playing in his old stadium, recorded an interception and a pass deflect in the victory. The Panthers had just eight first downs. Tampa Bay 24, Cincinnati 21 Trench Counter: Buccaneers +10.9, Bengals -10.9 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) defeated the Cincinnati Bengals (2-3) on a 31-yard field goal by Connor Barth as time expired. Josh Freeman connected with Mike Williams for a 20-yard pass that tied the score with less than two minutes remaining. Freeman finished 20-for-33 with 280 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Earnest Graham and Cadillac Williams combined to rush for 88 yards and a score. Carson Palmer threw for 209 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Cedric Benson was Cincinnati?s offense star, rushing for 144 yards on 23 carries. Terrell Owens had seven catches for 102 yards and a score, while rookie tight end Jermaine Gresham was the recipient of Palmer?s other touchdown strike. Chad Ochocinco had just three catches for 20 yards. Atlanta 20, Cleveland 10 Trench Counter: Falcons +11.1, Browns -11.1 The Atlanta Falcons (4-1) scored 14 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the Cleveland Browns (1-4) on Sunday afternoon. Matt Ryan had 187 yards and a touchdown as Michael Turner rumbled for 140 yards on just 19 carries. Roddy White led the Falcons in receiving with five grabs for 101 yards and a score. Defensive end Kroy Biermann returned an interception 41 yards to seal the victory in the fourth quarter. The Browns averaged just 2.4 yards per rush as Seneca Wallace and Jake Delhomme combined to go 24-for-38 with 211 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Peyton Hillis, Cleveland?s growing offensive star, had 77 total yards and a receiving touchdown that came on a 19-yard connection with Wallace in the second quarter. Detroit 44, St. Louis 6 Trench Counter: Lions +4.2, Rams -4.2 The Detroit Lions (1-4) exploded against the St. Louis Rams at Ford Field for their first victory of the 2010 season. Shaun Hill tossed 21 completions for 227 yards and three touchdowns, which went to Calvin Johnson (54 yards), Brandon Pettigrew (26 yards) and Nate Burleson (56 yards). Rookie running back Jahvid Best rushed 18 times for 67 yards and Detroit?s defense added to the scoring. Stefan Logan returned a kickoff 105 yards for a score in the second quarter and Alphonso Smith brought an interception back 42 yards in the fourth period. The Lions were limited to just a pair of Josh Brown kicks, which both came in the first half. Sam Bradford, the first pick in April?s NFL Draft, went 23-for-45 with 215 yards and two interceptions. The Rams lost, but Steven Jackson was tremendous as usual. He rushed for 114 yards on 25 carries and also caught a 12-yard pass from Bradford. Danny Amendola led St. Louis in receiving with 12 catches for 95 yards. N.Y. Giants 34, Houston 10 Trench Counter: Giants +14.2, Texans -14.2 The New York Giants (3-2) scored the first three touchdowns of the game as they routed the Houston Texans (3-2) at Reliant Stadium. Eli Manning went 27-for-42 with 297 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Two of his scoring strikes went to Hakeem Nicks, who caught 12 passes for 130 yards in the win. Steve Smith, who had six receptions for 89 yards, caught Manning?s other touchdown. Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs combined to rush for 108 yards and a score. New York?s defense held Houston in check, limiting Matt Schaub to 196 yards and an interception on 16-for-34 passing. Arian Foster was held to just 25 yards on 11 carries and Houston tallied just 195 total yards at home. Indianapolis 19, Kansas City 9 Trench Counter: Colts +1.4, Chiefs -1.4 The Indianapolis Colts (3-2) handed the Kansas City Chiefs (3-1) their first loss of the season at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indiana. Peyton Manning had 244 yards, but he failed to throw a touchdown as he tossed an interception. Joseph Addai, who left with a shoulder injury, and Mike Hart combined for 100 rushing yards and a score. Reggie Wayne led Indy in receiving with six catches for 75 yards. The Colts were paced by four Adam Vinatieri field goals. The Chiefs were strong defensively, but Matt Cassel and the offense couldn?t put enough points on the board. Cassel went 16-for-29 with 156 yards and Jamaal Charles rushed 16 times for 87 yards, but he also lost a fumble. Redskins 16, Packers 13 (OT) Trench Counter: Redskins -4.2, Packers +4.2 Graham Gano kicked a 33-yard field goal to lift the Washington Redskins (3-2) past the Green Bay Packers (3-2) on Sunday afternoon. Donovan McNabb threw for 357 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Ryan Torain led Washington in rushing with 40 yards on 16 carries. McNabb?s top target was Santana Moss, who caught seven passes for 118 yards. Anthony Armstrong had three receptions for 84 yards and a score. Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion late in the game, but went 27-for-46 with 293 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Brandon Jackson had his best game since replacing the injured Ryan Grant, tallying 115 yards on just ten carries. Green Bay?s passing attack was eclipsed by Washington?s (6.6 yards per pass to 5.9). Arizona 30, New Orleans 20 Trench Counter: Cardinals -0.6, Saints +0.6 The Arizona Cardinals (3-2) stunned the defending-champion New Orleans Saints (3-2) at University of Phoenix Stadium. The Saints quickly found themselves with a 10-0 lead, but rookie quarterback Max Hall and an opportunistic defense led the Cardinals to a comeback victory. Hall went 17-for-27 with 168 yards and an interception in his first NFL start. Arizona had just 194 total yards, but relied on three defensive touchdowns ? a two-yard fumble recovery by Levi Brown, a 27-yard fumble return by Kerry Rhodes and a 28-yard interception return by Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Drew Brees went 24-for-39 with 294 yards, two touchdowns and three costly interceptions. Ladell Betts and Chris Ivory combined for 83 yards, but neither reached the end zone. Marques Colston led New Orleans in receiving with seven catches for 97 yards. Robert Meachem (72 yards) and Jeremy Shockey (30 yards) caught the touchdown tosses of Brees. Tennessee 34, Dallas 27 Trench Counter: Titans +9.4, Cowboys -9.4 Chris Johnson scored on a one-yard run with 3:28 left in regulation to push the Tennessee Titans (3-2) over the Dallas Cowboys (1-3). Vince Young went 12-for-25 with 173 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Kenny Britt led with four receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown, while Nate Washington caught Young?s other scoring pass on a 24-yard reception in the first quarter. Johnson finished the game with 131 yards and two scores. Tony Romo threw for a career-high 406 yards, but he had three interceptions to go along with his three touchdowns. Miles Austin was his top target with nine catches for 166 yards and a touchdown. Roy Williams (87 yards) and Jason Witten (84 yards) caught Romo?s other scoring strikes. Felix Jones had the best game of his young career, rushing for 109 yards on 15 carries. Oakland 35, San Diego 27 Trench Counter: Raiders -9.2, Chargers +9.2 The Oakland Raiders (2-3) jumped out to a 12-0 lead over the San Diego Chargers (2-3) and recovered a Philip Rivers fumble in the final minute for the game-clinching touchdown. Jason Campbell went 13-for-18 with 159 yards and a touchdown in relief of Brad Gradkowski, who suffered an injury. Michael Bush, who starred in place of Darren McFadden (hamstring), tallied 104 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. Tight end Zach Miller led Oakland in receiving with six catches for 62 yards and a score. Rivers exploded for 431 yards and two touchdowns, but two lost fumbles cost the Chargers severely. Ryan Mathews led San Diego in rushing with nine carries for 59 yards at the Oakland Coliseum. Malcolm Floyd was the star for the Chargers, recording eight catches for 213 yards and a score. Antonio Gates (92 yards) also reached the end zone.
