To help fill the void created when Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jamal Williams was placed on Reserve-Injured due to a tricep injury, the Chargers signed nine-year veteran Alfonso Boone to bolster depth along the defensive line. Boone, who played under Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera for three years and defensive line coach Don Johnson two years with the Chicago Bears, signed a one-year contract with San Diego. The 6-5, 305-pound Boone has appeared in 113 games in his career with 37 starts. To make room for Boone on the roster, the team released defensive end Andre Coleman.
