Jets owner Woody Johnson told the Star-Ledger on Thursday that the club is still trying to get Leon Washington a new contract.
Johnson said "we are trying our hardest" to come to terms on a deal, which Washington has been requesting all offseason.
"We're showing him love," Johnson said. "We can only do what we can do. But we love Leon. Leon's a great player."
Washington is believed to be looking for a deal that will pay him $6 million annually.
