When Mike Singletary replaced Mike Nolan on Oct. 20, the prospect of the 49ers finishing the season 8-8 seemed like a complete long shot. "Absolutely," left guard David Baas said. "I think 8-8 is a great goal to strive for. We definitely had our down time. Once we started believing in ourselves, I think we can be so much better than we are." Cornerback Walt Harris said, "That's where we want to finish. ... That's our goal for the rest of the year. Coach Singletary definitely came in and put his stamp on this team, and it's showing. I'm sure everybody sees it. I totally believe in Singletary and what he's done. Hopefully, the right decision will be made."
