With almost as many injuries occurring in Week 3 as Bob Sanders has had in his career, there are some timely pickups to be made just in time for some bye week relief. Here is the short list of waiver wire adds that need to be made and a few of these were on our watch lists from prior weeks: - RB Kenneth Darby - RB Benjarvus Green-Ellis* - RB Willis Mcgahee - RB Maurice Morris - RB Laurence Maroney* - WR Louis Murphy - WR Blair White - TE Dustin Keller Here are the players to keep your eye on in Week 4 with some that could be inserted into your starting lineup this week. RB Donald Brown Indy?s former first round pick is seeing more playing time these days and for good reason. The Colts (through Week 3) are ranked third in both total offense and passing. However, this team is in dire need of some new horse shoes because they can?t run the ball. Ranked 25th in rushing offense, the Colts have become one dimensional and will look to address this deficiency. Starting RB Joseph Addai has struggled to hit running lanes with the same speed thus far this season that once made him a first round pick in 2006. Indianapolis knows they can score points but they also know they must be better in the run game to win the tough divisional matchups in the AFC South. With Brown playing better each week thus far, I wouldn?t be surprised if the Colts make him the starter by Week 5. If you have the roster space, do not hesitate to add Brown to your lineup. If you don?t, watch Brown?s Week 4 production and/or Addai?s lack of production. If either happens, make the move. RB Marshawn Lynch Like Addai, Lynch is a former first round pick and a former fantasy darling as well. Now part of the worst offense in football Lynch has been seeing playing time due to an injury to this year?s first round pick, RB CJ Spiller. It?s very likely Lynch may currently be on another fantasy roster due to the rumors swirling about either Green Bay or New Orleans making a trade for his services. With Buffalo brass recently denying these claims, watch for Lynch to be dropped quicker than a girl with marriage on her mind. Thus, with Lynch?s recent production, he?s certainly worth a look. Especially considering how putrid the Packers running game in their loss this past Monday night against the Bears. Although Buffalo publicly said they are not interested in trade offers for the former California Bear, it?s very possible they are merely playing the game of negotiation to get more out of teams in need. Point is this, if he?s sitting on free agency in your league, make sure you add him and keep him on your roster until the NFL trade deadline on October 19th. RB Bernard Scott Watching RB Bernard Scott is merely due to comments recently made by Bengals starting RB Cedric Benson. Benson, after Week 3's great performance and win, went on to admit in an interview with Jim Rome on ESPN?s ?Rome is Burning? that there is some dissension on the offense. Furthermore, Benson alluded to his unhappiness with Head Coach Marvin Lewis not running the football ? even after Rome gave Benson a way out of that comment, Benson?s reply was, ?I pretty much always say what I feel.? Marvin Lewis has been known to be lenient with his players, but NO NFL head coach tolerates bad mouthing his coaching decisions publicly. I?d look for Scott to ?earn? some more playing time this week as a message. Scott was one of the reasons why the Bengals didn?t re-sign Larry Johnson in the offseason and continued to impress this past training camp. The comments could end up to be much ado about nothing but the Bengals coaching staff is certainly big on Scott so if this situation worsens, Scott will be on every fantasy radar so he better be on yours first. WR Brandon Lloyd The former 49er rap star had an impressive Week 3 with 169 yards and a TD. Make no mistake about it, WR Demaryius Thomas is going to get his touches down the road but Lloyd is listed as the number one option on Denver?s depth chart. Given that the Broncos are ranked first in passing offense, why wouldn?t any fantasy owner want the first receiver on the depth chart? Well given that Denver is about to face the fifth and top ranked defenses against the pass the next two games in Tennessee and Baltimore respectively, that could have something to do with it. Furthermore, QB Kyle Orton spreads the ball to multiple receivers better than mom spread on peanut butter to your PB&J?s as a kid. Thus, any Denver WR is hard to start with confidence on a weekly basis but, Lloyd is certainly worth a look in a pinch. WR Darrius Heyward-Bey This is not a typo and it?s not a joke. Granted, last year?s seventh overall pick has had more draft-bust jokes than receptions thus far in his career, but he is now a player that savvy fantasy GM?s are noticing. With QB Bruce Gradkowski now at the helm, the Raiders now have an offense that can at least make a first down and sometimes score points. Thus far the majority of the yards have been due to RB Darren Mcfadden but Gradkowski found Heyward-Bey on a few pass plays this past week. Do not add the Raiders receiver just yet, but given the routes Heyward-Bey ran against the Rams, it was a strong sign that the young receiver has finally learned what it takes to play at the professional level. If he has, then the world class sprinter?s speed he possesses could benefit a fantasy owner in need of a bye week fill-in. TE Greg Olsen Oddly enough, the majority of fantasy owners avoided Olsen this past draft due to the fact that new Bears Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz has never had a decent fantasy tight end under his watch. With all that said, Olsen has caught a touchdown pass in two straight games and is also coming off of his best performance of 2010 with five receptions, 64 yards, and one TD. Given that TE?s Jason Witten and Visanthae Shiancoe are on bye weeks, Olsen may be your fill-in this week. If TE Dustin Keller is unavailable, then pick up Olsen and start him (if Keller is available the pick him up regardless!). If you don?t need a tight end then keep your eye on Olsen?s production going forward because Martz is utilizing Olsen?s skill sets in the slot (too big for a DB, too fast for a LB) similar to how TE Vernon Davis was used last season. Furthermore, Olsen plays on the fifth best passing offense which is an offense every fantasy owner wants to be invested in. Atlanta Defense The Dirty Birds face a 49er offense that has found more sand and water then gold this season. The 49ers have a rookie Offensive Coordinator in Mike Johnson coaching his first game in the booth. Additionally, the 49er offense has scored a measly 38 points, have turned the ball over seven times, and given up seven sacks ? all in only three games. Only the dismal Carolina Panthers have fewer points with a higher turnover and sack total; but they have a rookie quarterback. Additionally, Atlanta has given up the sixth fewest points in the NFL thus far and they get the Niners at home. Adding all of these factors together, this is definitely a plug-n-play scenario that every fantasy owner should start with confidence. Furthermore, the Falcons get the lowly Browns the following week which is another struggling offense to say the least, regardless of whoever is at quarterback. Indianapolis Defense It should be noted that Jacksonville has got to be in desperation mode after recently picking up QB Trent Edwards off waivers this week. Edwards won?t likely see the field versus the Colts but the pickup can cause a locker room to question the direction of their team which is not something they need to be doing against the Colts this week. The Colts defense on the other hand is poised to stomp a Jaguars offense ranked 30th in total yards and scoring, and 27th in passing. No defense benefits from its high powered offense more than the Colts and although Indianapolis isn?t great at stopping the run, the Jaguars have been making a strong case to move to Los Angeles next season given their 29th ranked defense. QB Peyton Manning should jump on the Jags early forcing them to get away from the running game ? a tactic that many teams have deployed this season. Furthermore, Jacksonville?s offensive line has given up nine sacks thus far so if the Colts do jump on the Jags early, the Colts pass rush will pin their ears back in this game adding to their average of two sacks and two turnovers per game, leading to a fantasy payday of at least ten points.
