By Christopher Reina Since most teams in the country already have four games in the books, it is now time to begin evaluating which players can lay a legitimate claim upon the Heisman Trophy. 10. Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon Going into the season, the Pac-10 quarterbacks in Los Angeles (John David Booty) and Berkeley (Nate Longshore) were getting all of the attention, but Dixon has been the best so far. He has thrown for 932 yards and 11 touchdowns to go with his 291 yards and 4 touchdowns rushing. Dixon played right field for the Gulf Coast League Braves this summer. 9. Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville Brohm is putting up the godly numbers everyone in the country thought he would, but their 2-2 record knocks him down considerably. Last week versus Syracuse, Brohm threw for 555 yards and 4 touchdowns, but he also yielded two interceptions. On the season, Brohm already has 1,697 yards passing, with 15 touchdowns. 8. Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma Oklahoma appears to be a legitimate threat for the National Championship and Bradford is a Heisman Candidate despite being a freshman. He has completed 78.2 percent of his passes, good for 14 touchdowns and 1,067 yards. If the Sooners can get by Texas week after next, then the sailing should be smooth for both team and player. 7. Michael Hart, RB, Michigan Like Brohm?s Cardinals, Hart?s Wolverines are 2-2, so the record could hurt his chances, but with their wins over Notre Dame and Penn State, the tides have turned somewhat. Hart has 655 yards and 6 touchdowns. Hart is nothing if not a work horse, he had 44 carries on Saturday against Penn State. 6. Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii Brennan didn?t play against Charleston Southern this weekend, but they still won 66-10 without him. The big win was a double-pronged negative for Brennan; he missed an opportunity to add to his already impressive statistical line and June Jones? team demonstrated an ability to be dominant beyond their star QB. Nevertheless, Brennan has thrown for 1,262 yards and 12 touchdowns while completing 77.4 percent of his passes. He has also rushed for 4 touchdown scores. 5. Ray Rice, RB, Rutgers Rutgers and Rice remain untested, but he has piled enough yards (431) and enough touchdowns (9) to make this list. He and the remainder of the Scarlet Knights are expected to turn things up a notch in New Jersey when the schedule begins to get tougher. 4. Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia Slaton and the Mountaineers haven?t faced the most difficult schedule, but they have still been impressive. He has rushed for 502 yards and 9 touchdowns. Slaton hasn?t had a 200+ yard game yet this season, but he has been steady enough to be in the thick of things. 3. Andre? Woodson, QB, Kentucky Woodson has the Wildcats out to a 4-0 start, including their prized victory over in-state rival Louisville. Woodson has thrown for 1008 yards with 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions. After their bye this week, they face South Carolina, LSU and Florida in consecutive weeks, which will allow the country to see if Kentucky is a legitimate top-15 team and if they are, then Woodson is also a legitimate Heisman candidate. 2. Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas McFadden was the runner-up to Troy Smith last season as a sophomore and was considered the favorite this season, but the Razorbacks have stumbled in consecutive weeks to Alabama and Kentucky. In three games, McFadden has rushed for 519 yards and four touchdowns. Against Kentucky, McFadden had 173 yards while fellow running back Felix Jones chipped in 133 of his own. McFadden?s chances may rest as much on the record Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt can lead the team to as it does his own statistics. 1. Tim Tebow, QB, Florida Tebow has been excellent thus far for the defending champion Gators. The sophomore has thrown for 1096 yards, 10 touchdowns and just one interception. He has also rushed for 358 yards on 70 attempts and has reached the end zone himself 7 times.
