By Laremy Legel Here?s a look at the top five at the three main positions. I hope you own one of these guys or you?ve probably already been eliminated. Quarterbacks 1. Peyton Manning: 2781yds / 20td / 5int / 2 rushing td Peyton is having the best QB year out there, shocker eh? He?s also rushed for two bonus touchdowns, his first since 2002. The lesson here is clear: Edge James didn?t matter one little bit to Peyton?s output. 2. Donovan McNabb: 2647yds / 18td / 6int / 3 rushing td He was having a monster year before being put on the shelf due to injury. He had 5tds over 50 yards if your league happened to have a big play bonus. Here?s hoping you have a nice back-up if you were an owner because you?re probably in the thick of a playoff run given his production. 3. Drew Brees: 3114yds / 17td / 10int If you?re in a scoring league that penalizes big for interceptions this ranking is too high. For the rest of us though those 3100 yards have come in handy, crazily enough he could still catch the immortal Marino single season throwing yards record. 4. Phillip Rivers: 2307yds / 15td / 5int The truth is the Chargers couldn?t have made the wrong choice because both of their options were solid. Sometimes you?re going to come out on top no matter what you do. Rivers offers a more conservative offensive game, he makes fewer mistakes, and he knows to just look for LT when times get tough. He was probably a huge bargain for a lot of players this year. 5. Carson Palmer: 2504yds / 18td / 7int He was the top QB on my draft board and he went amongst the top three QBs in most leagues. The only issue he?s battled is a chronic case of fumbeilitis. His past two games have been stellar though and he?ll likely climb up this board before the year is over. 6. Rex Grossman: 2214yds / 18td / 11int This is a bonus one because of the McNabb season ending injury. Grossman narrowly edges Tom Brady because you could have gotten him much cheaper. Can sexy Rex hang on to this lofty ranking? Most likely not, though if the Bears can get him the ball on the opponent?s 30yd line every time it will help. Running Backs 1. LaDainian Tomlinson: 1037yds / 22td (total) / 47 receptions To put this in perspective he?s about 30% ahead of the next highest running back in terms of points scored. He?s got a mind boggling 22tds and near 1500yds from scrimmage. He?s Superman. The only annoying thing about LT is the luck quotient in getting him every year. Let?s see, who should I take with the #1 pick? Oh, is LT available? Maybe I should scoop him up, what do you think? 2. Larry Johnson: 1045yds / 14td (total) / 29 receptions He?s only racked up a comparatively pathetic 14 scores. If your league has a ?carries? scoring category he?s been handed the rock a league leading 248 times. That won?t be changing anytime soon so LJ remains a solid #2 fantasy guy. 3. Steven Jackson: 811yds / 5td / 54 receptions Here is where it gets really murky, and this ranking is based solely on the pass catching ability. If your league doesn?t give points for receptions his five a game have gone to waste. 4. Willie Parker: 893yds / 9td / 26 receptions He?s poured it on lately with half his points coming in the last three games. In a pleasant coincidence the Steelers have won the past two so he should see a healthy diet of carries as the season winds down. 5. Frank Gore: 1043yds / 4td / 37 receptions He does have a nasty penchant for putting the ball on the ground so if you get dinged for fumbles you?ve frowned at him on occasion. His last two games have been over 20 carries so there?s every indication Nolan is a believer. Wide Receivers 1. Chad Johnson: 933yds / 7td/ 57 receptions The amazing thing about these numbers and his ranking is that he?s completely disappeared for three of the ten games and a vast amount of his points have come in the past two weeks. You?ve hated him for his consistency but if you stuck with him he?s probably single handedly won your last two games for you. 2. Darrell Jackson: 785yds / 8td / 50 receptions He?s caught touchdown balls in five of the past six games and he?s very quietly having a monster year. How quietly? Well, I live in Seattle and was taken aback by these numbers. 3. Marques Colston: 869yds/ 7td / 54 receptions Wow, a lot of people got Christmas early this year as a waiver wire WR is slaughtering the league. He?d be second in the rankings if he could match D-Jack?s big play ability or wasn?t a little banged up. 4. Steve Smith: 870yds / 4td / 57 receptions Personally, I wouldn?t bet against him taking the top slot by New Years. The little big man is always crazy motivated, doesn?t take plays off, and hates when people smack talk him. Cross him and he cuts you. 5. Reggie Wayne: 885yds / 7td / 55 receptions Yep, the other Colt is having a bigger year than Marvin Harrison though if you tried to get an announcer to say that you?d need a wrench. He?s got speed and the best QB in the league tossing passes to him. Ah, to be young and on turf again.
