The San Francisco 49ers targeted Odell Beckham, but the wide receiver out of LSU was taken at No. 12 by the New York Giants.

“We certainly liked him as a football player, no doubt about it,” 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said of Beckham.

“The price of doing business when you’re trying to move from 30 up to the top 10 or close to the top 10 becomes pretty stiff. And you’re giving up a lot of football players to go get one football player. And if you look at history, a lot of times that works against you.”

The 49ers stood pat and selected Jimmie Ward at No. 30. Ward will compete for the No. 3 cornerback job against Eric Wright and Perrish Cox.
