Mike Nugent missed a 36-yard field goal in the closing seconds of overtime that would have given the Cincinnati Bengals a 40-37 win over the Carolina Panthers.

"I didn't even have to look up, I coulda told you it didn't even hit the net," Nugent told reporters after the game, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Dehner. "Probably the worst ball I ever hit in a game in my career. It was horrible."

Nugent remains confident despite the bad miss.

"I never get worried about confidence," he said. "I don't think I'd be playing for 10 years if I had an issue with confidence. Just the moment, right now, just a lot of disappointment ...

"It's just really tough to see my coaches and see my teammates after a game like that. ... Tomorrow's gonna be a tough day facing everybody but this is a great locker room, great coaches, great players and great people. It's just very difficult to see a "1" at the end of our record. ...

"A lot of people say, 'Hey, it's just one play in the game,' but as a kicker it's your biggest play of the day so it's tough to think otherwise."
