Number of drafted Pro Bowlers since 1997: 11
(Pro Bowlers marked by * below)
Taking over for Tom Donahoe in 2001, Kevin Colbert has been at the helm as GM of the Pittsburgh Steelers and has given Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin enough quality personnel via the draft to win Super Bowls in 2005 and 2008.
Various Notes
- With Kordell Stewart and Tommy Maddox filling the job at quarterback between 97 and 03, there was no clear
- The Steelers selected wide receivers with their first round pick in consecutive drafts in Troy Edwards and then Plaxico Burress, as it was immediately clear that the former was not a satisfactory solution at the position.
- Fourteen wide receivers have been selected since 1997, with 2003 and 2004 the only years in which they went home from New York without one.
- James Harrison was signed as an undrafted rookie.
- Pittsburgh has been rather sparse by drafting offensive linemen, but have done well with Alan Faneca, Max Starks, Chris Kemoeatu and Marvel Smith.
- We still need to see what kind of running back Rashard Mendenhall will become, but from 2000 until 2007, Pittsburgh has hit with every first round pick and have potential Hall of Famers in Troy Polamalu and Ben Roethlisberger.
