Smith: Chargers Have Lost Respect Around NFL

Oct 31, 2014 8:46 AM

Coming off back-to-back seasons without reaching the playoffs, the Chargers feel as though they have lost respect around the NFL. "We have lost our respect in the league and our credibility in the league," A.J. Smith told Peter King of Sports Illustrated. "We were an elite team. You miss one year in the playoffs? OK. You miss two? You deserve everything that's being said about you." Smith's players don't disagree with his blunt assessment. When told of the comments, center Nick Hardwick said, "Amen." Antonio Gates called it a truth that's "not acceptable, not negotiable."

Chargers Working To Avoid Slow Start

Sep 30, 2014 6:23 PM

"They understand the sense of urgency we have," Turner said. "If you're one of the 11 guys on the field, you have to do it right. Rivers Likes Peyton On Broncos

Oct 31, 2014 4:44 AM

Peyton Manning's decision to sign with the Broncos couldn't be good news for the rest of the teams in the AFC West, but one star welcomes a new rival. "I was probably one of the few people that was crazy enough to say it, but I was hoping he was going to Denver," Chargers QB Philip Rivers said Wednesday on NFL Network. "And I say that with all respect. Certainly going to make it even tougher, you look at Indianapolis when he was there, they went like 10 straight years winning 10 games or more, so we certainly can't expect that 8-8 will get us in."
