D.J. Hayden Released From Hospital

Nov 23, 2014 10:19 AM

D.J. Hayden was released from the hospital on Wednesday following surgery to remove scar tissue as a result of last November's heart surgery.

Hayden underwent emergency surgery due to a severe injury to his heart.

Hayden's doctor has stated this scar tissue is not a lingering issue of the injury but rather a result of the surgery and is rather common.

Hayden was the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders.

Raiders Sticking With 4-3 As Base Defense

Jul 5, 2014 9:45 AM

The Oakland Raiders have turned over a sizable portion of their linebacker corps with many of them playing on the outside.

But the Raiders are going to continue featuring the 4-3 as their base.

"We're basing out of a 4-3, just like we did last year," Dennis Allen said Saturday. "But we're going to have the ability to have some 3-4 looks, and being able to implement those things and try to make them as simple as we can for our players, as well as try to make it complicated for the offense."

The Raiders may ultimately play the 4-3 on obvious running downs and then switch to 3-4 on passing downs.

Tyler Wilson Impressive At Minicamp For Raiders

Nov 28, 2014 1:02 PM

Tyler Wilson looked very impressive in practice with the Oakland Raiders on Saturday.

Wilson exhibited arm strength and accuracy in a variety of different passes.

“Obviously, picking up a new system, there’s a little bit of rust there,” Dennis Allen said of Wilson. “But throwing the ball, he’s done a nice job. I don’t have any question about his arm strength and his accuracy.”

Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor are also vying for the Raiders' starting job as quarterback.

“It’s an opportunity,” Wilson said after practice. “Obviously, there’s a lot I have to learn. … I’ve got a lot of work to do to get up to speed because there have been veteran guys that have been here that are way ahead of me right now. So, I’m playing catch-up from that point.”

D.J. Hayden Not Thinking About Chest During Practice

Aug 5, 2014 9:49 PM

D.J. Hayden practiced through a sore hamstring on Saturday and broke up several passes.

Hayden was the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders.

“Oh, man, it felt so great just to get back out there, put the helmet back on and just actually be on the field,” said Hayden.

Hayden had a near brush with death last November when he suffered a ruptured vein that feeds blood from his lower body to his heart in a practice.

“I don’t even think about it,” Hayden said of the injury in which a teammate’s knee drilled him in the midsection while defending a pass over the middle. “The only time I think about is when somebody asks me. But when I’m on the field, I don’t think about that. I think about the play and about the coverage that I’m in. I put it past me.”
