Woodson Will Visit Green Bay

Sep 20, 2014 11:54 AM

Charles Woodson, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, is scheduled to arrive in Green Bay sometime this weekend for an official visit. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only other team that has had Woodson in, so the potential for the Packers to reel in their first big-name free agent certainly exists. ?If we?re talking to him, we?re serious,? coach Mike McCarthy said.

Owners To Discuss Los Angeles

Jun 28, 2014 3:23 AM

NFL owners will convene today in Orlando, Fla., with the collective bargaining agreement extension behind them and the search for retiring commissioner Paul Tagliabue's successor ahead. While a commissioner search committee might be formed during the three days of meetings, there also is other business to address. Returning to Los Angeles, from which the Rams and Raiders both bolted after the 1994 season, has become a staple of these annual spring meetings, as are tweaks to player safety rules and the instant replay system. In the wake of Pittsburgh becoming the first sixth seed to win the Super Bowl, Kansas City is proposing yet again to expand the playoffs from 12 to 14 teams. And Tampa Bay is proposing to make all penalties subject to instant replay. "Moving forward on Los Angeles is a key priority ... because the economic foundations that enable us to look at that type of a challenge and to address it are in place with TV in place and labor in place," Tagliabue said. Tagliabue continues to meet with prospective ownership groups, whose team would play at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (the former home of the Raiders), the Rose Bowl in Pasadena or at Angel Stadium (the former home of the Rams) in Anaheim.

Woodson Meets With The Bucs

May 18, 2014 9:51 PM

The Bucs entertained Raiders free-agent cornerback Charles Woodson. Woodson, according to his agent, had a good meeting with the Bucs. "Charles said everything went well," agent Carl Poston said. "But I expected him to enjoy it. They have good people there and they all know each other." Woodson, who has spent his entire NFL career with the Raiders, was drafted in 1998 by then-Raiders and current Bucs GM Bruce Allen. Gruden was coaching the Raiders at that time. Poston said no contract negotiations have taken place, nor does he expect any until Woodson visits the Green Bay Packers next week. Poston said he also hoped to arrange a visit with the Seahawks, but Seattle officials said Friday they have no interest in Woodson.

Brooks Signs With Oakland

Sep 5, 2014 6:46 PM

The Oakland Raiders found their replacement for Kerry Collins, agreeing to terms Wednesday with former New Orleans quarterback Aaron Brooks on a two-year contract worth more than $8 million. The 29-year-old Brooks gives new Raiders coach Art Shell a proven starter to compete with veteran backup Marques Tuiasosopo and second-year pro Andrew Walter. Brooks was cut last week by New Orleans when the Saints signed Drew Brees, one of the most coveted free agents available this year. "It was a win-win scenario," said Brooks' agent, Mason Ashe. "They have a lot of potential, a lot of firepower. It looked like they were just missing the ingredient he adds -- a quarterback of his caliber who has his skills."

Brooks Sticks Around Oakland, Will Have Offers From Northern Division

May 16, 2014 11:02 PM

Aaron Brooks arrived Monday in the Bay Area, spent Tuesday visiting with the Raiders and ? unlike some other personalities the Raiders have entertained recently ? stayed the night and will meet with the Raiders again today. By contrast, Josh McCown, the first quarterback the Raiders hosted for chalk talks was in town one night and didn't even spend an entire day huddling at the team's Alameda headquarters before bolting to Detroit to sign with the Lions. There, he accepted the same contract offered to him by Oakland. However, according to one report, Brooks, a free agent after being waived last week by the New Orleans Saints after they signed Drew Brees, may also find himself wooed by a team in the NFC's Northern Division. The Wisconsin State Journal reported that the Green Bay Packers have developed an interest in Brooks after losing backup Craig Nall to the Buffalo Bills this week.

Oakland Releases Kerry Collins

Aug 3, 2014 7:33 PM

The Oakland Raiders released quarterback Kerry Collins on Friday, an expected salary-cap move that got delayed five days after the NFL and its union postponed the start of free agency. The Raiders had to make the tough decision on the fate of Collins, who knew his time was probably up with the Raiders because he would be too expensive. By releasing Collins, Oakland will save $9.2 million against the salary cap once bonuses are factored into the figures.

Oakland Becomes The Frontrunner For Daunte

Jun 12, 2014 6:03 AM

As reports circulated Thursday night that Daunte Culpepper was about to be traded, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf said he did not know of an impending deal. That could change as early as today. The Oakland Raiders appear to be the front-runner to acquire the recalcitrant quarterback. Miami also has shown interest in Culpepper. A report on NFL.com Thursday said a trade was imminent but did not name a team.
