Jones: Cowboys Can't Be Smug

Jun 17, 2014 4:44 PM

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones doesn't want his team to get overconfident despite their 8-3 start to the season. Dallas is all alone in first place in the NFC East. "This is a time when there shouldn't be anybody smug, shouldn't be anybody feeling full of themselves by where we are," Jones said. "We should really sit down here and see because we may not, on an individual basis, ever get to be in a spot like this again. So, let's spend the next six weeks really blocking everything out as much as we can and zero in on the playoffs." The Cowboys went 1-3 in December last year, missing the playoffs on the final day of the season.

Greg Ellis Misses Second Half

Sep 2, 2014 5:09 AM

Raiders defensive end Greg Ellis missed the second half of the team's game against the Cowboys on Sunday with swelling in his left leg. Ellis had swelling in both his left knee and lower leg. Oakland's medical staff tried to drain the knee at halftime. "If the swelling was just in my knee, I probably would have been able to go out there," said Ellis. "But it went down my shin and calf, and you can't drain that."

Sep 23, 2014 8:16 AM

Cowboys tight end Jason Witten could miss Thursday's game against the Raiders with a sprained foot. "I won't say it's severe, but it's something that worries us about him being able to play this week," Dallas coach Wade Phillips said Tuesday. He'll be a game-time decision. Witten has 54 receptions for 481 yards and a touchdown this season.

Phillips: Romo's Back Is Feeling Better

Sep 23, 2014 8:16 AM

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will play against the Raiders on Thanksgiving. However, it remains to be seen how his sore lower back will affect his play. He struggled after getting kneed in the back early in Sunday's 7-6 win over Washington. "He says he feels a lot better today," coach Wade Phillips said Monday. "He had a little bit of stiffness. He had quite a bit during the ballgame, but today he said he feels a lot better."

Cowboys' Newman, Campo Have Confrontation

Sep 23, 2014 8:16 AM

Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman and secondary coach Dave Campo had a physical confrontation on the sideline Sunday. Both Campo and Dallas head coach Wade Phillips downplayed the incident after the team's 7-6 victory over Washington. Newman was coming off the field in the first quarter when Campo tried to stop him. Newman pushed away from the coach and they exchanged words, according to Yahoo! Sports. "I was trying to stop him from keeping going and he thought I grabbed him. He just kind of bowed up," Campo said. "We were a little upset. It was between family. No harm, no foul."

Phillips Focused On Coaching, Not Contract

Sep 23, 2014 8:22 AM

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips isn't focused on the fact that he's in the final year of his contract. Dallas owner Jerry Jones has an option for next season, but has chosen to let the season end before addressing the coach's future. "That's the way I've always coached," Phillips said. "Way back [in Denver], when we were 10-6, 10-6, 11-5 and went to two AFC Championship Games and we got fired, I realized that, hey, you can do a great job and for whatever reason, you can be gone. "So I stopped worrying about all that and worry about coaching, trying to do the best I can do to help the team win. That?s all I really think about." The Cowboys are 6-3 and in sole possession of first place in the NFC East.

Roy Williams Returning To Visored Helmet

Sep 23, 2014 8:24 AM

Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams will wear a visor on his helmet for Sunday's game against the Redskins. Williams wears the visor because of his contact lenses. He was hit in the face mask with a ball during last Sunday's loss to the Packers because the visor clashed with the lights at Lambeau Field. "That [visor] is really bright," Williams said. "You can see the lights in my vision. That ball hit me dead in the face. Show me any other [pass] when I've gotten hit dead in the face."

Jerry Wants To Get Felix The Ball More Frequently

May 16, 2014 11:57 PM

Jerry Jones wants to involve Felix Jones more heavily in the Cowboys' offense. "I certainly understand balance," Jerry Jones said on Thursday. "But I'd sure like to see him with the ball more." The owner sees no concerns in the health of his second-year running back. "We need to get him in situations outside, or where he has a little space, and we'll see some of that," Jones said. "It's not a frustrating thing. It's a tactical thing." Jones said he has not demanded coach Wade Phillips and the offensive staff make any changes because all concerned agree with him on this.

Gurode To Meet Haynesworth For First Time Since Head-Stomp

Nov 17, 2014 11:10 AM

When the Cowboys play the Redskins on Sunday, it will be the first time Andre Gurode has played against Albert Haynesworth since the infamous incident that saw the defensive tackle stomp on Gurode's head. "I think that situation is behind us," Gurode said. "It?s something that happened years ago. He doesn?t focus on it. I don?t focus on it. We just moved forward and continue to play football. You can?t let what happened in the past define who you are."
