The Atlanta Falcons have named Marcus Mariota their starting quarterback after just one day of training camp.

Mariota is entering his first season with the franchise, who will have rookie Desmond Ridder serve as the backup quarterback.

"Obviously, we've got a plan for each of them. Marcus is the starter," said Falcons quarterbacks coach Charles London. "That's how we're going into this thing."

Eddie Goldman has informed the Atlanta Falcons that he intends to retire.

The defensive tackle, 28, signed with the Falcons less than two weeks ago.

After spending his entire career with the Chicago Bears, Goldman was set to start a new chapter in Atlanta. 

Released by the Chicago Bears in March, Eddie Goldman has signed with the Atlanta Falcons.

Goldman, a defensive tackle, becomes the sixth former Bears player to sign with the Falcons this offseason.

Former Bears general manager Ryan Pace, who was fired by Chicago after last season, is now a senior personnel executive with the Falcons.
