Atlanta's New OC Ordered To Improve Screen Passing Attack
Dirk Koetter, new offensive coordinator of the Falcons, shared some of his vision for the team’s offense on Monday.
Koetter met with quarterback Matt Ryan for about an hour last week. He told Ryan that he’s a proponent of the vertical passing game, running the football and that he’s been ordered by head coach Mike Smith to improve the team’s screen passing attack.
“Every team in the NFL knows that you have to be able to run it even when they know you’re going to run it," Koetter said. "You have to be able to throw it even when they know you’re going to throw it.”
Koetter said he’ll combine the best parts of the Atlanta and Jacksonville offense.
“It would be foolish to not build on some of the things that Atlanta is already doing very well,” Koetter said. “Watching from afar, Atlanta played well in the no-huddle. [From] talking to Matt Ryan, that is something that Matt is excited about, so the no-huddle will certainly be a part of it; what percentage is still to be determined.”
Falcons Hire Koetter As O-Coordinator
The Falcons have reportedly hired Dirk Koetter as their new offensive coordinator.
Mike Mularkey left the position with Atlanta to become the head man in Jacksonville.

Report: Spagnuolo, Nolan Top List Of Falcons DC Choices
The Falcons are in the market for a new defensive coordinator and former Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo and Dolphins defensive coordinator Mike Nolan are leading candidates, according to a report.
Atlanta has ranked no better than 20th in the NFL in pass defense since 2008.
"Moving forward, this defense needs to continue its growth and evolution as a passionate and fiery defense, one that is going to fly to the football, disrupt, be opportunistic and capitalize on opportunities to turn the game around; flip the game in critical situations," Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said.
Dimitroff also said that whomever they hire does not necessarily have to have ties to head coach Mike Smith.
Falcons Add Limited Partner
The Falcons have added a new limited partner, though Arthur Blank continues to hold more than 90 percent ownership of the team.
Brian J. Barker is owner of AFS, a domestic freight forwarding company headquartered in Shreveport, La. He lives in Park City, Utah, but says he couldn't pass up the chance to become involved with the NFL.
