Notre Dame has announced a $400 million plan to expand the school's 84-year-old football stadium. The plan includes increasing capacity from 80,795 to more than 84,000.

The buildings on the east and west sides of Notre Dame Stadium will rise nine stories.

The university said the club seating areas could also be used for academic events, classes, conferences and career fairs.

Derek Mason has emerged as the clear favorite to become the next head coach at Vanderbilt.

Mason has been at Stanford for four seasons and is currently their defensive coordinator.

Brian Schottenheimer, Pep Hamilton and Herb Hand have also been mentioned as candidates.

Alabama will hire Lane Kiffin as their offensive coordinator.

The deal will be for three seasons.

Kiffin was fired by USC as head coach in late September.

Lane Kiffin will interview with Alabama for their offensive coordinator vacancy.

Alabama is searching for a replacement for Doug Nussmeier, who left to become offensive coordinator at Michigan.

"Lane is a really good offensive coach, and I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for him," Nick Saban said recently. "Just to come in and brainstorm a little bit to get some professional ideas with our guys is a really positive thing."

James Franklin is expected to become the next head coach at Penn State, replacing Bill O'Brien.

Franklin is head coach at Vanderbilt and had also received interest for NFL jobs.

Johnny Manziel will enter the 2014 NFL Draft, forging the final two seasons of his eligibility at Texas A&M.

Manziel won the Heisman Trophy in 2012 as a redshirt freshman.

Manziel's decision was reported earlier Wednesday by NFL.com.

Manziel is widely expected to be a first round pick.

Greg Roman will interview with Penn State for their head coaching vacancy.

Roman has been offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers since 2011.

Florida State defeated Auburn by a final score of 34-31 to win the BCS National Championship.

The Seminoles came back from an 18-point deficit.

Jameis Winston struggled for much of the game, but went 6-for-7 for 77 yards on the game-winning 80-yard drive.

"It was the best football game he's played all year," Jimbo Fisher said, "and I'll tell you why, because for three quarters he was up and down and he fought.

"And to pull it out in the atmosphere and environment and with what was on the line tonight, to me if that's not a great player, I don't know who is."

Both teams combined for 24 points in the final 4:42 of the game.

Johnny Manziel will wait to meet with his family before he makes a decision on whether to declare for the 2014 NFL Draft.

Manziel has two years of eligibility remaining at Texas A&M.

"I want to make the right decision that's best for me and my family," Manziel said.

Most mock drafts expect Manziel to be a first round pick if he declares.

Blake Bortles will leave UCF to declare for the 2014 NFL Draft.

Bortles is a redshirt junior and considered one of the best prospects at quarterback in the draft.
