Lane Kiffin reiterated that Javon Walker, the team's No. 1 player at the "X," or split-end position, needs to step up his play and enthusiasm considerably in this all-important third exhibition game. If he doesn't, the coach implied that he would move one of the flankers Ronald Curry or Drew Carter, to starting split end. "In the end, if it becomes something where Javon is not playing as well as we need him to play, both of those guys have learned 'X' so they can go over there," Kiffin said. "I don't feel the need to do that right now. I expect Javon to have a big game. I'm putting in a game plan, and he should see some balls early in this game. Hopefully, he'll make some plays."
