In spite of what the New York Jets are saying about a new stadium to be run jointly by both New York teams, the Giants seem to think they are close to a deal to build an 80,000-seat stadium and adjacent practice facility that would cost $800 million and be paid for by both teams. On Thursday, the Jets appeared to have a different view of the status of negotiations. "I think at this point we are far apart," spokeswoman Marissa Shorenstein said. The new stadium, if built, would open for the 2009 football season. "We're very close to concluding a deal" with the Giants, Robert G. Sommer, a spokesman for the Xanadu developers, said Thursday evening.
