If Donovan McNabb tried to force a trade in the offseason, the Eagles could not use the salary cap as an excuse. If the Eagles trade McNabb next off-season before June 1, he will count for $4.22 million against their 2008 salary cap. His 2008 salary will be $6.3 million.
The Eagles signed McNabb to an extension in 2002 that essentially runs through 2010. As part of that deal, the Eagles paid him a $20.5 million signing bonus.
And unless the Eagles completely unravel by February, the club is likely going to want to try to get more from McNabb for their investment.
