Giants defensive end Michael Strahan said that he had hoped to make a decision about retirement ?without much hoopla,? but it is far too late for that. Having informed the Giants, through his agent, on the eve of training camp that he was considering retiring after 14 N.F.L. seasons, Strahan stayed quiet for 10 days, listening to everyone else discuss what he might be thinking. That ended late yesterday, when Strahan ? through his agent, Tony Agnone ? released a letter addressed ?To the New York Giants Fans.? He is still undecided about his future, Strahan wrote, standing ?before that proverbial fork in the road.? But he felt the need to write a letter to combat ?the recent torrent of erroneous media reports and totally inaccurate assumptions.? Strahan painted his deliberation as purely about what is in his heart, and not his bank account.
