Kyle Shanahan isn't ready to name Jimmy Garoppolo the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback entering the season.

Shanahan said at the start of camp that he expected Garoppolo to start despite the presence of first-round pick Trey Lance.

"No, I'm not making that announcement. Nice try, though." Shanahan said following the team's preseason game on Sunday.

The coach noted he's not in any hurry to "name" a starting quarterback, but promised it'd come before the season opener on Sept. 12 against the Detroit Lions.
