The first game of the 2012 season is just a week away and NFL's dispute with their officials doesn't appear to be nearing an end.

The league sent a memo to each of the 32 teams alerting them that the season will begin with replacement referees.

"In light of the current state of negotiations, we will have replacement crews on the field when the regular season begins," the memo said. "The replacements have undergone extensive training and evaluation, and have shown steady improvement during the preseason. We will continue the training with each crew and they will work as much of the regular season as necessary."

Roger Goodell said on Aug. 23 the full-time officials likely would need seven to 10 days to prepare for Week 1. The first full Sunday of action is Sept. 9.
